Working as an Art Director for various design studios in Orange County has helped me
in developing a specific style/ look as an established gallery Artist. Being a POP artist to
me means taking in all aspects of modern life and transforming them into the specific
message I intend to deliver to the viewer. Growing up in Santa Ana has influenced my
work from the experience of being raised in the city to the significance it has on me in
modern times. It is extremely rewarding to have my art presented throughout various
galleries in Santa Ana as well as a public art piece I was commissioned for in 2014
(Electrical Box Project located on 4th and Broadway).
With my current focus being the art of photography, 1 feel it is my responsibility to
photograph life in its purest and rawest form. That means putting myself in situations
that most people would not be comfortable in, which allows me capture certain aspects
of our Santa Ana life that most people do not get to see in person.
My goal in to keep progressing as an artist/ photographer and to help influence the
younger generation of Santa Ana artists to have confidence in their ambitions and
talents.
Narrative for proposed use of funds:.
The goal for the proposed project "Life and Culture in the Golden City: A Social
Documentary of Santa Ana presented in Photography' is to present the captured
imagery of Santa Ana in the most creative and professional environment possible. With
the support of Bowers Museum, hosting the presentation and the Artist Grant provided
will achieve the goal and more.
Bowers Museum will host the proposed exhibit in the John M. Lee Court wing of the
museum which measures 50' x 90' wall to wall. The rental of temporary wall space will
be required due to the fact that I will not be able to display the photography prints
directly on the wall. The 26 temporary wall spaces measuring 4'x8' will be able to create
endless wall space when joined with a clean and seamless look throughout. The
photography on display will vary based on the sizes listed in the Line Item Budget to
create a more dramatic and exciting presentation of the city. With the presentation being
the crucial part of the exhibit, I plan to display the photography as sets based on the
core topics listed in the Brief Description of Project, As the viewer enters the John M.
Lee Court wing at Bowers Museum they will be greeted by a introduction displayed on
the entrance with the name and a brief description (in the form of quality vinyl lettering)
of the exhibit. The two 14`x8' temporary walls positioned in the center of the museum
space will provide a impactful presence to the visitors with large scale images on
display of select sections of the overall exhibit. The images on the 14'x8' walls will be
presented in creative mediums such as wood transfers of imagery, wrapped wood
frames and a wheat -paste of the imagery to mimic a "street art" scene.
The Canon 35mm lens will be a vital additional to my current lenses to provide a wider
field of view. This provides greater flexibility when it comes to creating interesting
compositions in architecture and street photography scenes. The photography will be
