REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />FEBRUARY 21, 2017 <br />TITLE: <br />RESTRUCTURE CITY COUNCIL <br />COMMITTEES, ESTABLISH MEETING <br />SCHEDULE AND APPOINT MEMBERS <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5, 1 <br />CITY MiNAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />El As Recommended <br />0 As Amended <br />El Ordinance on 1 " Reading <br />El Ordinance on 2n6 Reading <br />7 Implementing Resolution <br />7 Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />I Adopt resolution rescinding current council committees and establish the following <br />staffing council committees as recommended by staff, or as otherwise directed by the <br />City Council. <br />• Community Services Committee (and Joint Santa Ana Unified School District and <br />City Council Committee) <br />• Economic Development, Infrastructure and Technology Committee <br />• Legislative Affairs, Ethics and Transparency Committee <br />• Public Safety, Code Enforcement and Neighborhood Empowerment Committee <br />2. Establish a meeting schedule for each standing committee.. <br />3. Appoint 2 to 3 City Council members on each committee. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City Council first established Council Committees in 1999. Since then, they are <br />periodically reviewed to ensure that the diverse issues and challenges facing the City are <br />adequately addressed. Currently the City Council has 6 established committees as follow: <br />• Development and Transportation Committee <br />• Public Safety and Neighborhood Improvement Committee <br />• Parks, Recreation, Education & Youth (PREY) Committee; and Joint Santa Ana <br />Unified School District and City Council Committee <br />• Code of Ethics and Conduct <br />• Finance, Economic Development and Technology Committee <br />• Legislative Committee <br />65A-1 <br />
