D.3.3 Holidays <br /> Where, on a given route, the day of collection would be a legal holiday, the <br /> contractor shall collect along the route on the work day next following said legal <br /> holiday. Legal holidays shall be New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence <br /> Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. <br /> D.3.4 Prohibition of Multiple Vehicles <br /> All solid waste, including segregated yard waste and recyclables, are to be <br /> commingled and collected at the same time in one collection vehicle. The City will <br /> not allow separate trucks to pick up different types of materials. <br /> D.3.5 Prohibition Against Commingling with Other Jurisdictions <br /> Solid waste collected in the City of Santa Ana shall not be commingled in the <br /> Contractor's equipment with solid waste from any other jurisdiction, except in the <br /> event of any emergency vehicle breakdown, in which case a vehicle in a <br /> neighboring jurisdiction may complete the route of the vehicle which broke down. <br /> D.3.6 Collection Points&Requirements <br /> The Contractor shall not be required to collect solid waste from any curbside service <br /> unit unless the same is placed on the curb along a public or private street, or along <br /> an alley having street access at both ends, and is placed in containers, packaged <br /> and otherwise prepared for collection in a manner prescribed by the City's <br /> regulations covering the same. The Contractor shall not be required to pick up and <br /> collect any material or matter which is not solid waste, or to pick up and collect any <br /> solid waste from curbside service units which does not comply with the following <br /> standards and limitations, provided that Contractor leaves notification with the <br /> customer explaining, in English and in Spanish, why the solid waste was not <br /> collected: <br /> (1) All solid waste shall be placed in containers adequate to eliminate overflow or <br /> contamination of surrounding areas; <br /> (2) Individual containers must not weigh in excess of 15 pounds empty or have a <br /> capacity exceeding 35 gallons. The total combined weight of the container and <br /> its contents shall not exceed 50 pounds unless collected with the assistance of <br /> mechanical devices; <br /> (3) Cardboard or wood cartons acceptable as temporary containers will be <br /> considered solid waste and will not be returned. Any cardboard or wooden <br /> carton which is not specifically used as a temporary container must be broken <br /> down, flattened down and tied in bundles with strong cord or wire heavy <br /> enough to act as a handle, or shall be placed in otherwise acceptable <br /> containers; <br /> Page 18 <br />
