Signage will be displayed at all public telephones areas indicating the <br />availability of the videophone(s) and TTY(s) and the procedure for using <br />them. <br />iii. Santa Ana will ensure that the privacy of telephone calls by inmates/ <br />detainees using a videophone or TTY is equal to that of other <br />inmates/detainees' telephone calls. <br />j. Signs. Santa Ana will post conspicuous signs in public areas (including booking <br />and holding areas) of the City Jail that advise persons who are deaf or hard -of - <br />hearing of the availability of appropriate auxiliary aids and services, including <br />qualified interpreters, as follows: "To ensure effective communication with <br />individuals who are deaf or hard -of -hearing, Santa Ana will provide auxiliary aids <br />and services, such as qualified sign language, oral, or tactile interpreters; <br />videophones; and TTYs, free of charge. Please ask for assistance by contacting <br />Santa Ana's ADA Coordinator or ADA Deputy Coordinator, [name and full <br />contact information]." Television Programming. Inmates/detainees at the City Jail who are deaf or <br />hard -of -hearing will have access to captioned television programming that is <br />equivalent to the access to television programming available to inmates/detainees <br />without disabilities in the same classification level. <br />1. Effective Communication Checklist. Santa Ana shall create an effective <br />communication checklist for use by City Jail staff. The checklist shall <br />encompass: <br />i. Santa Ana's obligations to provide effective communication for deaf, <br />hard -of -hearing, and deaf -blind inmates/detainees during the <br />booking/intake of inmates/detainees with disabilities; <br />ii. the provision of auxiliary aids and services for effective communication; <br />iii. the ongoing need for communication assessments and consultation; <br />iv. the requirements to give primary consideration of an inmate/detainee's <br />preferred auxiliary aids and services; and <br />v. the prohibition on the use of other inmates/detainees or members of the <br />public to facilitate communication. <br />Page 6 of 10 <br />
