DOWNTOWN PUBLIC ART PROJECT (DOWNTOWN RESTROOM ARTWORK PANELS) <br />• Established an arts component to the Downtown Restrooms located at 3rd and Bush <br />Streets on a City -owned parking lot <br />o Project will install art work on eight panels on the restroom structure <br />o Project is in the final stages of development and will be recommended for <br />approval to the City Council in the near future <br />A new project introduced this year, the Downtown Public Artwork Project for the restroom <br />artwork panels is a new grant anticipated to be an ongoing opportunity for artists to showcase <br />their work. With feedback from the Arts and Culture Commission, staff developed a detailed <br />RFQ Call for Artists providing the details for the project. Staff also developed a corresponding <br />application for artists to apply for this grant. In-person information sessions were delivered to <br />interested applicants prior to the release of the application providing ample time for questions <br />and answers. Arts and Culture staff are actively working at this time on this project. Currently <br />artists have completed the application, and an outside panel has evaluated the projects. The <br />panel's recommendations will be brought before the Arts and Culture Commission for further <br />review on lune 15. <br />WINGS OF THE CITY <br />• Visiting Public Art Exhibition by Mexican Artist Jorge Marin <br />o Unveiling October 2017 <br />• Coordinated negotiations with the Mexican Consulate's Office; will be the last public <br />exhibit before returning to Mexico <br />SANTA ANA ARTIST ROUNDTABLE SPONSORSHIP <br />• Partnered with Downtown Inc. and the Santa Ana Business Council to support the Santa <br />Ana Roundtable <br />• With support from the City, the group has developed the following: <br />o Artist website <br />o Artist registry <br />o Calendar of events <br />o Assisted artists with professional development <br />EVALUATION/REVIEW PANELS FOR ALL PROJECTS <br />• Assembled volunteer panelist from across Southern California to review grant <br />submissions <br />• Panelist have reviewed over 50 submissions for various submittal projects <br />THE LINE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT <br />• Public Art Plan component incorporated into The Line development project <br />• First such project as a result of feedback from the arts community on a prior project <br />approved by the Planning Commission <br />• Sculpture proposal presented to Arts and Culture Commission and recommended for <br />approval to the Executive Director of the Planning and Building Agency <br />• Local Artist, Hiromi Takizawa, was a part of the project <br />19F-5 <br />
