learned, and talent. The 2016 program was very successful and produced an incredible
end -of -summer event that generated excitement about the arts in the community. The
program was well-received by the neighborhood but is not currently operating and can
only operate if grant funds are awarded.
The 2016 program was a pilot project with a number of different components that were
tested to determine what would work best. Program participants were attracted to the
performing aspects of the classes and worked hard to learn the different dance moves,
theater pieces, songs, and skits needed for the end -of -summer event. They also worked
hard to produce art pieces for the art gallery and there was significant energy and
expectations by the program participants and their parents, as well as by local residents
and seniors from the community about the final goal of producing the event.
The proposed program takes the best parts of the 2016 program and will use the
lessons learned to produce an even greater result for 2017, The goal is to increase
exposure to the community about the role that the arts can play to benefit our children
and to encourage residents to get more involved in the arts.
Supplemental Question 3: How will the proposed project be presented or shared
with the public? Will the art display, event or performance be free and accessible
to the public?:
The proposed project will be presented to the community at the end -of -summer
extravaganza at Delhi Center, which will be free for parents, family members, and the
general community. This event will be the culmination of five weeks of dedicated work
and training that participants will use to showcase their accomplishments. The event will
be open to the public with special marketing directed to the families of program
participants as well as to others who visit Delhi Center on a regular basis and the entire
community.
A video of the summer will be produced and presented during the end -of -summer
Extravaganza that will demonstrate the process that program participants went through
during the summer and will show their hard work in preparation for the end -of -summer
event.
A second video of the extravaganza will be produced and featured on Delhi Center's
website and other social media sites. It will also be presented at various events
conducted by Delhi Center, including the Delhi Neighborhood Day, a free annual event
celebrating the achievements of residents, and the Zocalo Fiesta, which is the agency's
annual fundraiser. This will provide additional exposure of the benefits the arts play in
the community.
The end -of -summer event and both videos will showcase all the different art genres that
program participants engaged in, including performances as well as an art gallery to
share art pieces created during the summer. The videos will be set to music to make
them entertaining and to depict a creative expression of the hard work of program
participants.
