Sheathed in narrow lap siding, the building. is <br />'capped by'a side gable ioof whose rafters are exposed.in,the,overhanging eaves.' A� former sleeping porch, now enchii ed with itband' <br />of windows.within its slightly arched opening; forms a large, front -gabled dormer centered over the fagade.' Gable end treatment <br />includes slat venting, exposed braces, and bargeboards'with notched ends. Spanning the'.facade,.the front porch "is recessed beneath <br />the main gable: Stout brick pedestals carrying •wooden posts divide the space into bvo bays. Arched beams span each bay. The south <br />bay contains the entry, framed by'another pair of pedestals, these topped by Tuscan columns. An oak doorway pierced by narrow <br />slats of beveled glass is flanked bysidelights. in the north bay, a broadly proportioned tripartite•-window'is banded by a transom <br />window whose mullions; are offset from.those of the main window. All of the "openings are linked by a continuous header that wraps' <br />the house. 'The most visible alteration of. this nicely detailed. and substantially intact Craftsman is an exteriorstaircase, added to the <br />south elevation in 1993. <br />HISTORIC HIGHLIGHTS: <br />According to previous research,.this house was built in 1915.by Charles and Clara Andres.' Charles Andres cane to Santa Ana in, <br />1903 and initially,purchased a 20 -acre property on McFadden Street. He sold this ranch in 1912'and bought another in Garden Grove. <br />Andwas'a emberof the Garden Grove Citrus Association, Garden Grove Walhut Growers Association, Garden Grove Farm <br />Center, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Evangelical Church of Santa Ana, and active in the Repbblican Party (Treasures). <br />.
