REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />DECEMBER 5, 2017 <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />TITLE: APPROVED <br />APPROVE AGREEMENT WITH MS + MEGT <br />❑ As Recommended <br />FOR CENTER STREET URBAN GREENING <br />❑ As Amended <br />ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN <br />El Ordinance on 1s` Reading <br />ElOrdinance on 2 nd Reading <br />(PROJECT NO. 17-2674) <br />Resolution <br />❑ Resolution <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 6, 1G) <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />CITYIMANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with MS + MEGT <br />to provide consulting architectural design services for the Center Street Urban Greening project, <br />for a two-year term beginning December 5, 2017, and expiring on December 4, 2019, with the <br />option for the City to grant up to two one-year renewal options exercisable by the City Manager <br />and the City Attorney, in the total amount not to exceed $83,110, which includes a 10 percent <br />contingency for additional design analysis in the amount of $7,555, subject to nonsubstantive <br />changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Approval of this recommended action will allow staff to proceed with preparation of plans and <br />specifications (Contract Documents) for the project as identified in the FY 2016/17 Capital <br />Improvement Program. The Contract Documents will be used to competitively bid and construct <br />the project. <br />The Center Street Urban Greening project is located within Jerome Park, where a 500 -linear -foot <br />length of roadway, formerly Center Street, has been closed to vehicular traffic. The north -south <br />asphalt roadway currently divides the park and separates two sets of recreational ball fields. The <br />project scope of work involves removing and infilling the roadway to develop new open space <br />while tying together the two park areas and installing walkways, seating areas, lighting, <br />landscape, and irrigation. <br />In June 2017, the Public Works Agency released a Request for Proposals (RFP) inviting qualified <br />firms to submit proposals for architectural design services. The RFP was posted on the City <br />website and forwarded to local chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects for <br />distribution to their membership. <br />2511-1 <br />
