Prentice. The Zoo is a significant site for families, <br />education, and conservation work. For the local community it is a memorable landmark. It displays <br />native and exotic animal species in natural settings, providing conservation education and <br />experience based tourism activities. It has lush and historic botanical species and provides a <br />peaceful and reflective setting for family picnics and outings. <br />As the Zoo celebrates 66 years of operation, it is recognized that the Zoo has changed <br />substantially. In keeping with modern animal management and husbandry the animal enclosures <br />and practices are constantly being improved. The Zoo has taken an active role in community <br />education, research, and conservation. <br />The Santa Ana Zoo Master Plan is the document used to direct the development of the Zoo and <br />its visitor services. The Master Plan includes two components, a Facility Plan guiding physical <br />development of the site and a Strategic Business Plan guiding the organizational priorities and <br />financial planning. The Facility Plan presents a comprehensive approach of how the Zoo can be <br />developed over the next 15-20 years. The Strategic Plan, developed hand in hand with the Facility <br />Plan, has informed all aspects of the vision to enhance the guest experience, increase revenue <br />opportunities, and bolster mission driven programs. <br />The current Master Plan was adopted by the City Council in 1990. This Master Plan called for the <br />Zoo to focus on the animal life and culture of Central and South America with an underlying theme <br />of biomes and their relationship to water.
