Orozco, Norma
From: Connie Hamilton <
Sent: Friday, March 09, 2018 11:14 AM
To: eComment
Subject: FRIDAY, MARCH 9, 2018 special meeting
I cannot make it to this special meeting to present my comments, but here they are for the record:
For many years, I have believed that our council representatives should be elected by the members of that
particular ward. The arguments opposing that have been flimsy, at best. These are my concerns,
however. Since we seem to redraw the district lines after each census period, it doesn't seem to make sense to
redraw them now with only two years to go. Unless, of course, there are legal issues that are prompting
immediate action. I am not privy to any pending actions, but that doesn't mean they are not looming in the
shadows. Another concern of mine (and others) is the insinuation by some that redistricting could prompt the
powers -that -be to reset their term limits. This, in my opinion, would be a violation of the public's trust and
intentions. Hopefully, this won't be part of the proposed measure.
Connie Hamilton
