Orozco, Norma
From: Houston, Nicole
Sent: Tuesday, April 03, 2018 11:42 AM
To: Alcala, Abigail; Huizar, Maria; Mitre -Ramirez, Norma; Orozco, Norma; Rojano, Michael
Subject: FW: Urgent Plea on the Homeless in Orange County - Specifically in the Santa Ana Area
Ymportance: High
From: Leyva, Raquel[mailto:
Sent: Monday, April 02, 2018 2:16 PM
To: DOC_Chambers@cacd.uscourts.gov
Cc: Andrew.Do@ocgov.com; audra.fishel@ocgov.com; michelle.steel@ocgov.com; lisa.bartlett@ocgov.com;
todd.spitzer@ocgov.com; Solor!o, Jose <1Solorio@santa-ana.org>; Pulido, Miguel <MPulido@santa-ana.org>
Subject: Urgent Plea on the Homeless in Orange County -Specifically in the Santa Ana Area
Importance: High
To the Honorable Judge David 0. Carter and other Orange County Leaders,
I am a resident of Santa Ana and I am outraged that other cities in the county are refusing to assist in the homeless
crisis. Like Irvine, Laguna Niguel, and every other city, our children also deserve a safe walk to school and a safe
environment all together. We deserve clean parks and public areas, and we deserve the same consideration for how the
homeless population affects our day-to-day lives. One city should not carry the burden of an entire county homeless
population as Santa Ana has been doing for the past few years. Our representatives have let this issue get way out of
hand and are to blame for not taking proper action in this matter way before this issue turned out as terrible as it is.
Please let me remind you that not all Santa Ana residents are second class citizens or are welfare recipients or on food
stamps! Some of us are hard-working decent individuals who deserve the same consideration and respect given to the
Irvine residents a couple of weeks ago! Our kids deserve the same consideration. My husband and I personally paid over
$8000.00 in property taxes annually! We deserve a city to be proud of not to be the dumping field for the homeless
population in all of Orange County! Other cities need to step up to the plate and the homeless population should be
divided equally amount ALL cities in the county regardless of status. Emergency shelters need to be created/build in
every city if there isn't one already in place. NO MORE EXCUSES FROM NEIGHBOORING CITIES! No city should be better
than the other and no city should have special privileges over another!
Santa Ana already has a terrible reputation among all the cities in Orange County and this homeless mess it's only
making it worse! The Santa Ana Riverbed, our downtown area and Civic Center area look like a third world country! Our
kids can't even visit the city's public library for goodness sake!
Please represent me and the thousands of other tax -paying, voting, and law-abiding citizens of Santa Ana by showing
your support in this matter! We deserve better!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for really taking into consideration this very serious issue.
Raquel Leyva, Santa Ana resident
