Orozco, Norma
From: Mitre -Ramirez, Norma
Sent: Monday, May 14, 2018 10:52 AM
To: Orozco, Norma
Subject: FW: Santa Ana Needle Exchange -
From: Darla McBee[mailto:
Sent: Wednesday, May 2, 2018 6:56 PM
To: eComment <eComment@santa-ana.org>; City Council <CityCouncil@santa-ana.org>;
DOC_Chambers@cacd.uscourts.gov
Subject: Re: Santa Ana Needle Exchange -
To whom it may concern,
I am a Santa Ana resident of over 8 years.
While I do not have a problem with the needle exchange program to mitigate public health concerns we
cannot be the only city across the county (or one of very few) to house this program. When you place a
program like this in one spot, the people who utilize this will migrate to the place housing the
exchange. Given these people are homeless or have substance abuse or mental health issues, they will plant
themselves near the needle exchange obviously since they do not have means to come and go. This means,
how are we even to spread this problem across the entire OC when we do not also place these needle
exchange programs all over the county as well?
I am thankful that Santa Ana is taking legal action against the country on the homeless but we need to also
consider placing any and all programs the homeless will gravitate homeless to over the country. Santa Ana
has done it's fair share for homeless and needled exchange and it ruined our city. It is time to spread every
aspect of dealing with the homeless across the country - including needle exchange.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Darla McBee
Wilshire Square
2
