Highlights of this presentation are as follows: <br />. In the current system, there are 29 sites supported and 2011 instruments <br />in service. <br />. There are a total of 2395 telephone extensions in the system <br />. Service providers include SBC for local and local toll calls; MCI for Long <br />Distance; TELDATA and LOMAC for cabling services; and NEC Business <br />Network Solutions for telephone system maintenance <br />. Effective December, 2002, NEC A MERICA discontinued support for the <br />telephone switch used by the City; this switch has been in use in City Hall <br />since 1986 - manufacture of this switch was discontinued in 1993 <br />. Parts for repair or replacement are no longer available; there is a higher <br />probability of voice service disruption and of a longer duration to repair <br />. Without manufacturer's support, costs of service will escalate at a higher <br />rate <br />. Staff recommends upgrading the current City Hall telephone switch to the <br />NEAX2400 IPX switch <br /> <br />~ <br />
