The plan's Statement of Purpose is to provide a
public zoological garden dedicated to wildlife, environmental education
and conservation of endangered species. The Neotropical zoogeographic
region, which includes the southern most tip of Mexico, and all of
Central and South America, was chosen to serve as the main theme because
of it's diversity in habitat and wildlife.

The "Tierra de las Pampas" exhibit will be a 2-acre site occupying the
Zoo's northwestern corner. It will represent the Grasslands biome, one of
four major biomes (forests, wetlands, grasslands and deserts) to be
represented at the Zoo, in alignment with the Master Plan's vision. Phase
I of the "Tierra de Las Pampas" will include two new multi-species
exhibit areas. The exhibit will house the existing Greater Rheas (large
flightless birds native to South America) and existing Guanacos (an
Andean camelaid and wild relative of the llama), and a new exhibit to
house a Giant Anteater. It will also include walkways with raised viewing
outlooks equipped with telescopes, education nodes for school groups and
organized classes, interpretive graphics and interactive elements.

Design of
architect.
preparation of
has solicited

this exhibit will require the services of a qualified
These services include planning of the facilities,
construction documents, and construction support.
