Project No. D-3885-06
Christ Our Savior Catholic Parish
Boring/CPT Location Map (Plate B-2, Appendix A). CPT's were drilled from 50- to 70-
feet below the existing ground surface. Electronic record of CPT data and correlations
were available from the CPT rig.
Continuous record of tip penetration resistance and sleeve friction, as well as various
conelations derived from these are presented in Appendix C.
Subsurface Conditions
The seven borings and five CPT soundings performed for this study encountered
relatively shallow groundwater ranging from approximately 14 to 24 feet. Based on CGS
Newport Beach Quadrangle Map, released April I 7, 1997, historic high groundwater
depth was approximately 5-feet below the existing ground surface.
A. Artificial Fill
Except for some rninor topsoil and/or pavement and other upper materials, no significant
artificial man-made fill was encountered below existing ground at the exploration
locations.
B, Alluvium
The underlying natural soils at the site generally consisted of wet and loose, silty fine
sand, with interbedded layers of finer, silty clay and organic peat. The Standard
Penetration Resistance (SPT) N-values were low, and the correlated N-values from CPTs
were slightly higher and generally consistent with the borings. Peat was encountered
mainly between l0- to 2O-feet below the ground in our borings. These materials are very
susceptible to settlement due to loading and should be treated properly to minimize
settlement.
C. Groundwater
Groundwater was encountered in between 14 feet to 23 feet below ground surface.
t0
t
T
I
I
T
T
u
I
I
T
I
I
I
T
I
I
I
I
T
