Project No. D-3885-06
Christ Our Savior Catholic Parish
The minimum clear spacing between piles should be twice the widths of the pile, sidewall
to sidewall. In case closer spacing is needed for design purposes, a group reduction factor
of 0.7 should be applied to total allowable bearing load determined for the entire group of
piles at a given location. A group capacity is calculated by multiplying the individual
allowable capacity by the number of piles in a group. We recommend grade beams to tie
the piles together. The size ofgrade beams should not be less than the pile size.
For piles to be driven in close proximity of any utilities or other underground structures
(vaults, etc.), a minimum clear distance of 3' or 2 pile diameters / or widths, whichever is
greater, should be maintained.
Indicator Pile Program:
Vibration Monitoring Program:
There seem to be no structures close by which may be impacted by vibrations and noise,
nevertheless it is recommended for vibration monitoring and noise level, if desired.
Vibration levels should comply with USBM zu8507 and OSMRE criteria. Project plans
and specifications should be reviewed by this office for further information relevant to
I
T
T
I
I
E
t
I
I
T
t
T
I
I
I
I
I
I
u
Indicator pile program can be conducted to verifu pile order lengths. This can be done by
driving at least 10 piles, using the same equipment as the production piles. Typically,
indicator piles would be longer than the anticipated design pile lengths (say 60 to 70 foot
long piles) and they would be driven at selected locations of actual production piles,
spread out over different areas ofthe site. Such data can be used in verifuing the criteria
for production pile lengths, driving energy, seating blow counts, and pile capacity. The
indicator pile program can also be accompanied by vibration and sound monitoring and
such data can be used in veriffing a suitable sound and vibration monitoring criteria for
production pile driving operations.
23
