l. Driven Pile
Support of Parish Center and Meeting Rooms Hall can be obtained by driven piles as
recommended for Sanctuary Building but the number of piles will be less and the piles
could be shorter.
2. Mat Footings over Ground Improvement with Pressure Grouting
Relatively lightly loaded Parish Center and Meeting room buildings may be supported by
Mat Foundation at least l8 inches thick overlying a moisture protective barrier layer of
Stego Wrap (15 mil or equivalent) over 12 inches of %-inch crushed rock compacted to
95Yo relative compaction over 3-foot compacted subgrade, also compacted to at least 93%
of ASTM D'1557 Laboratory Standard.
The semi-rigid mat footing may be designed for an allowable bearing capacity of 1,200
pounds per square foot. This basic capacity may be increased by onethird for short
duration loading, such as wind or seismic forces. Modulus of subgrade reaction, k value
may be taken as 100 pci for the subgrade layer of soil.
Other aspects of the design, including rigid mat thickness and reinforcement should be
determined by the project structural engineer.
Compaction Grouting & Semi-Rigid Mat Foundation
Traditionally, excavation-displacement or replacement, preloading and vertical drains,
stone columns, RCC piles, light weight foundation system, deep soil stabilization
methods are used in construction industries for ground improvement in peat soil.
Nowadays, deep soil stabilization method is proven to be more economical and requires
minimum time. The essential features of deep soil stabilization are columns of stabilized
materials that are formed by mixing the soil in place with a binder and the interaction of
the binder with the soft soils leads to a material, which has better engineering properties
than the original soil.
28
Project No. D-3885-06
Christ Our Savior Catholic Parish
u
E
E
I
n
I
I
I
I
E
E
E
E
u
E
I
I
n
I
