Projecl No. D-3885-06 <br />Christ Our Savior Catholic Parish <br />It may be possible to combine different methods to provide a suitable foundation for the <br />imposed loads eg. using a technique of surface stabilization combined with stabilized <br />cement columns or pressure grout for support of loads. Alternatively, reinforced stone <br />columns can be used that not only transfers loads to the lower and stronger layer rather <br />receives lateral support from the weak soil along the way. <br />Stone columns are generally provided by the specialized contractors and this may not be <br />an option to be chosen because the cost involved during construction may be high. <br />Pressure compaction grouting will be the most practical option in this case by providing <br />pressure grout to a certain depth. The more detail descriptions are as follows: <br />Ground improvement progam e.g. compaction grouting can be performed for the <br />stabilization ofthe subgrade soil from 25 feet to 5 feet below the existing ground (25 feet <br />ofsoft silty and clayey with peat layers). Compaction grouting should be performed under <br />continuous observation by the representative of Geotechnical Solutions, Inc. <br />This ground improvement technique improves the strength and/or stiffness of the ground <br />by slow and controlled injection of a low-mobility grout. The process displaces and <br />compacts this soil as grout mass expands. <br />Specialty contractor (e.g. Hayward Baker etc.) may be selected to perform compaction <br />grouting on design built basis. <br />Preliminary Design Recommendation for Grouting <br />Primary compaction grouting can be performed at l0-feet horizontal distance center to <br />center and from depth of25-feet up to 5-feet below existing ground surface. <br />Grout Mix <br />Grout mix should consist of Portland Cement (Type V), sand (with percent passing #200 <br />sieve between l0 and 30) and water and utilize '|Yo cemenl by weight of dry sand. <br />29 <br />lt <br />E <br />I <br />T <br />I <br />T <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />T <br />T <br />I <br />E <br />E <br />u <br />I <br />T <br />E
