Project No. D-3885-06
Christ Our Savior Catholic Parish
During excavation of the pad, it is possible to have a high moisture content bottom in
yielding condition due to the shallow water table and depending on the time of grading.
To stabilize the base of deeper excavations or to replace sloughed materials close to the
groundwater level, special measures may be needed if purnping or other problems are
encountered. These may include the use of 2-sack cement slurry backfill in localized
areas, impo( crushed rock type materials, filter fabric, or other measures as may be
appropriate. To address such conditions, the Geotechnical Engineer should be consulted
during construction.
General Geotechnical Observations:
At a minimum, we recommend that the Ceotechnical Consultant representative be present
to observe and provide testing during the following construction activities:
- Pre-grade meeting;
- During Compaction Grouting;
- Excavations for compacted fill;
39
Construction observation and fieldtesting services are an essential continuation of our
prior studies to confirm and correlate our findings and recommendations with the actual
subsurface conditions exposed during construction, and to confirm that suitable fill soils
are placed and properly compacted. It should be the Contractor's responsibility to notiff
the project Geotechnical Consultant at appropriate times for observation. A representative
of the project Geotechnical Consultant should be present on site during all major grading
operations to veriry proper placement all deep foundations and adequate compaction of
all fills, as well as to veri$ compliance with the other recommendations presented herein.
- Observations of subgrade compaction;
- Backfilling of utility trenches, pits, and trenches following demolition;
