California <br />Page 17 of 27 <br />Job No. 40-0613 <br />Aoril 5. 1999 <br />I <br />_l <br />j <br />I.l <br />l <br />10.2.5 Overexcavation <br />In order to provide uniform bearing conditions for structural support, it is <br />recommended that the entire building pad area be over-excavated to a minimum <br />depth of 1 foot below the bottom of the proposed footing elevation and a <br />minimum of 5 feet laterally beyond the building pad where practical. Based on <br />exploratory data, excavations can be accomplished using standard grading <br />equipment. Prior to fill placement, exposed subgrades should be evaluated by the <br />geotechnical representative to verify that suitable, uniform bearing conditions <br />exist. <br />Caution should be exercised when overexcavating along the south property line so <br />as not to excavate supporting soil for the adjacent structure. <br />10.2.6 Preparation of Areas to Receive Fill <br />The bottom of all excavations should be founded in competent fi materials. The <br />exposed surface should be scarified to a minimum depth of 8 inches. properly <br />moisture conditioned, and compacted to 90 percent mmpaction relative to ASTM <br />D-1557. <br />-.,) <br />10.2.7 Fill Placement and Comnaction <br />All additional fill and backfill should be compacted to a minimurn relative <br />compaction ol90 percent as evaluated by ASTM D-'1557 at a moisture content of <br />optimum or slightly above.
