SCE Santa Ana
October 25,2019
Project No. 3.31634
Page 2

The proposed improvements will include excavations for the foundation areas, utility
improvement, and paving. The structures are expected to sit at or near existing grades.
Foundations will likely include shallow conventional pad and continuous perimeter
footings for the Logistics Building Neither subterranean/basement levels or retaining
walls are not anticipated. SGSI should review foundation plans once complete to assure
conformance with the design recommendations in this report.

3. SITE DESCRIPTION

The improvement areas are to be located near the center of the SCE Santa Ana substation
which is located at 1241 S. Grand Avenue Boulevard, approximately 0.17 mi southeast of
the intersection of E. McFadden Avenue and S. Grand Avenue in Santa Ana, California
(Figures 1 and 2). The topography is flat, and the ground surface elevation is
approximately 100’ MSL. The improvements areas are paved and presently used for
parking and equipment storage. Map coordinates are 33.7326; -117.8484.

4. GEOLOGIC AND GEOTECHNICAL SITE CONSTRAINTS

Geotechnical constraints to development include the potential for strong ground shaking
from an earthquakes along nearby regional faults.

5. REGIONAL GEOLOGY

The subject site is located along the southern margin of the Los Angeles Sedimentary Basin
within the Peninsular Ranges Geomorphic Province. The site is underlain at depth by
alluvial sediments mapped as young (Holocene) alluvial fan deposits which include
unconsolidated to moderately consolidated silt, sand, and cobbly sands (Morton, D.M, and
F.K. Miller, 2006).

6. SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS

An onsite subsurface investigation was performed in September 2019 to evaluate the
general engineering characteristics of the site soils. The investigation consisted of two
shallow augers to 10 feet in depth, and two Cone Penetration Tests (CPT) performed by
Kehoe Testing, Inc. under subcontract with SGSI. The CPT probe was pushed to 50-foot
depths at each test location in general accordance with the current ASTM standards (ASTM
D5778). The CPT equipment consists of a cone penetrometer assembly mounted
47 of 100
1327 S Grand Ave
12/12/2024
