CONSTRUCTION NOTES
<br />1. PROVIDE ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE C.E.C. AND
<br />THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL SAFETY CODE, LOCAL CODES, ORDINANCES AND
<br />THE REQUIREMENTS OF UTILITY COMPANIES FURNISHING SERVICES TO
<br />INSTALLATION.
<br />2. PROVIDE ALL WORK AND ITEMS NECESSARY FOR COMPLETE AND FUNCTIONAL
<br />ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND
<br />DO NOT NECESSARILY SHOW EVERY CONDUIT, BOX, CONDUCTOR OR SIMILAR
<br />ITEMS FOR A COMPLETE INSTALLATION.
<br />3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE PRIOR TO BID AND DETERMINE
<br />CONDITIONS WHICH MAY AFFECT BID. ANY ITEMS NOT FULLY UNDERSTOOD
<br />SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ARCHITECT PRIOR TO
<br />BIDDING.
<br />4. REFERENCE ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS FOR EXACT LOCATION OF DEVICES.
<br />QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE LOCATION OF DEVICES AND EQUIPMENT SHALL
<br />BE DIRECTED TO THE ARCHITECT. FAILURE TO COORDINATE REQUIREMENTS
<br />SHALL IN NO WAY RESULT IN ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION BEING PROVIDED
<br />TO THE CONTRACTOR.
<br />5. WHEREVER THE WORD "PROVIDE” IS USED, IT MEANS, "FURNISH AND INSTALL
<br />ALL REQUIRED EQUIPMENT FOR A COMPLETE INSTALLATION AND SHALL BE
<br />FULLY OPERATIONAL.”
<br />6. COORDINATE THE LOCATION OF ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WITH OTHER
<br />TRADES AND THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
<br />7. REFER TO EQUIPMENT DRAWINGS FOR THE CHARACTERISTICS AND
<br />REQUIREMENTS (SIZE, LOCATION, ETC.) OF MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT, UNLESS
<br />OTHERWISE INDICATED. COORDINATE INSTALLATION AND LOCATION OF ALL
<br />EQUIPMENT WITH MECHANICAL AND GENERAL CONTRACTORS PRIOR TO
<br />INSTALLATION. VERIFY ALL OVERCURRENT PROTECTION DEVICE RATINGS,
<br />WIRE SIZES AND THE SIZE OF ALL DISCONNECTING MEANS PRIOR TO
<br />INSTALLATION. COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION OF THE EQUIPMENT WITH
<br />MECHANICAL AND GENERAL CONTRACTORS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. FOR
<br />ITEMS TO BE FURNISHED AND/OR INSTALLED BY ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR,
<br />SEE MECHANICAL DRAWINGS. REFER TO THE MECHANICAL DRAWINGS
<br />CONTROL DIAGRAMS FOR ALL TIME SWITCHES, RELAYS, STARTERS,
<br />THERMOSTATS, CONDUIT FOR LINE/LOW VOLTAGE AS REQUIRED. ALL
<br />EQUIPMENT SHALL COMPLY WITH CEC SECTIONS 110.9 AND 110.10 AND
<br />SUITABLE FOR THE AVAILABLE FAULT CURRENT.
<br />8. ALL SMOKE DETECTORS ARE NOT TO BE MOUNTED IN FRONT OF HVAC AIR
<br />DIFFUSERS, SUPPLIES OR RETURNS. VERIFY AT THE JOB SITE & MAKE ALL
<br />ADJUSTMENTS, WHERE REQUIRED PER CODE, NFPA 72 AND THE INSTALLATION
<br />INSTRUCTIONS.
<br />9. ALL SMOKE DETECTORS SHALL BE INTERCONNECTED AS REQUIRED BY NFPA
<br />72.
<br />10. PROVIDE CONDUCTORS AND RACEWAYS PER 2020 NATIONAL ELECTRICAL
<br />CODE AND LOCAL CODES.
<br />MATERIALS AND METHODS
<br />11. RACEWAYS AND CABLES SHALL BE ROUTED CONCEALED WITHIN THE BUILDING
<br />STRUCTURE WHERE POSSIBLE. WHERE RACEWAYS OR CABLES CANNOT BE
<br />CONCEALED, IT SHALL BE INSTALLED PER PROJECT MANAGER'S DIRECTION.
<br />ALL CONDUIT SHALL BE INSTALLED IN NEAT SYMMETRICAL LINES, HORIZONTAL
<br />OR PERPENDICULAR TO BUILDING COLUMNS AND ROOF LINES. CONDUITS
<br />SHALL BE GROUPED ON COMMON SUPPORTS WHEREVER POSSIBLE.
<br />12. EXPOSED CONDUIT ROUTING: CONDUITS MAY BE ROUTED EXPOSED. WHERE
<br />SUBJECT TO PHYSICAL DAMAGE, THEY SHALL BE PROTECTED OR BE GRC OR
<br />IMC.
<br />13. OUTDOOR EXPOSED CONDUIT ROUTING: CONDUITS ROUTED ON ROOF OR
<br />EXPOSED TO WEATHER SHALL BE EMT, GRC, IMC, PVC OR LIQUID-TIGHT FLEX.
<br />PROVIDE WATER-TIGHT CONNECTIONS AND FITTINGS.
<br />14. CLEARANCES: VERIFY PHYSICAL DIMENSIONS OF EQUIPMENT TO ENSURE
<br />THAT ACCESS CLEARANCES CAN BE MET PRIOR TO ORDERING AND
<br />INSTALLATION OF EQUIPMENT.
<br />15. CONNECTIONS: PROVIDE EMT, GRC, IMC, METALLIC FLEX, OR LIQUIDATE FLEX
<br />CONDUITS FOR CONNECTIONS TO MOTORS OR MOTORIZED EQUIPMENT.
<br />16. WIRING: PROVIDE MINIMUM #12 AWG WIRE SIZE. THE MINIMUM ALLOWED
<br />RACEWAY SHALL BE BE 1/2”. FLEXIBLE CONDUIT AND FLEXIBLE CABLE IS
<br />PERMISSIBLE THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING.
<br />16.1. WIRING: PROVIDE MINIMUM #10 AWG COPPER CONDUCTOR SIZE IN 120V
<br />BRANCH CIRCUIT HOME RUNS OVER 75’ IN LENGTH OR AS REQUIRED FOR
<br />VOLTAGE DROP MITIGATION. SELECTION OF DEVICES WITH ADEQUATELY
<br />SIZED CABLE TERMINATION TERMINALS IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE
<br />CONTRACTOR.
<br />16.2. WIRING: POWER WIRING FOR BRANCH CIRCUITS SHALL BE COPPER FOR
<br />#8 AWG CONDUCTORS AND SMALLER. CONDUCTORS #1 AWG AND
<br />LARGER SHALL BE XHHW-2.
<br />17. DISCONNECTS: PROVIDE DISCONNECTING MEANS, FUSED AND NON-FUSED, AS
<br />SHOWN AND REQUIRED BY CODE FOR EQUIPMENT FURNISHED UNDER
<br />ELECTRICAL, MECHANICAL AND PLUMBING SCOPES OF WORK.
<br />18. FUSES: PROVIDE FUSES PER EQUIPMENT NAMEPLATE UNLESS OTHERWISE
<br />INDICATED. FUSES SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH REJECTION TYPE FUSE
<br />HOLDERS.
<br />19. SUPPORT: SUPPORT LIGHT FIXTURES FROM BUILDING STRUCTURE. DO NOT
<br />SUPPORT FIXTURES FROM SUSPENDED CEILINGS OR DRYWALL.
<br />20. LABELS: ELECTRICAL PANELS, TIME SWITCHES, DISCONNECT WITCHES,
<br />STARTERS, CONTACTORS, PULL BOXES, ETC. SHALL BE PERMANENTLY
<br />LABELED TO IDENTIFY ITS DESIGNATION OR UNIT SERVED. ENCLOSURES
<br />LARGER THAN 6’’X6”, PROVIDED FOR EQUIPMENT THAT IS COVERED BY
<br />ARTICLE 700 OR 701, SHALL HAVE A PERMANENT IDENTIFICATION PLATE THAT
<br />IS SUBSTANTIALLY ORANGE IN COLOR.
<br />21. PAINTING: ELECTRICAL ENCLOSURES SHALL BE PAINTED ONLY AS REQUIRED
<br />BY ARCHITECT.
<br />22. COVER PLATES: PROVIDE AS FOLLOWS. SUBMIT SAMPLE OF EACH FOR
<br />APPROVAL.
<br />22.1. MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL ROOMS: GALVANIZED STEEL
<br />22.2. ALL OTHER AREAS: REFER TO SPECIFICATIONS
<br />23. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS OF ALL NEW
<br />EQUIPMENT TO BE USED. ALL SPECIAL PURPOSE OUTLETS INDICATED ON PLAN
<br />SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER AND OWNER
<br />PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL ENSURE
<br />PROPER WIRING AND COMPATIBILITY WITH ATTACHMENT PLUGS OR JUNCTION
<br />BOXES THAT MAY BE FURNISHED AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE EQUIPMENT.
<br />24. ALL RECEPTACLES INSTALLED ON THE ROOF OR EXTERNALLY SHALL BE
<br />GFCI-PROTECTED AND LISTED AS WEATHER RESISTANT.
<br />25. ELECTRICAL OUTLET BOXES SHALL BE HORIZONTALLY SEPARATED BY NOT
<br />LESS THAN 24" FROM OUTLETS IN THE OPPOSITE WALL SURFACE AND BACK
<br />SIDE OF BOXES SHALL BE SEALED WITH 1/8" RESILIENT SEALANT AND BACKED
<br />BY A MINIMUM OF 2" THICK MINERAL FIBER INSULATION.
<br />26. ALL FLOOR STANDING EQUIPMENT SHALL BE MOUNTED ON 4" HIGH CONCRETE
<br />HOUSEKEEPING PADS. THE SIZE OF THE CONCRETE PAD SHALL BE
<br />COORDINATED WITH THE EQUIPMENT SUPPLIER AND INSTALLATION
<br />INSTRUCTIONS. EQUIPMENT PADS SHALL NOT EXTEND MORE THAN 6"
<br />BEYOND THE EQUIPMENT.
<br />SITE ELECTRICAL
<br />27. TRENCHING: COORDINATE ALL TRENCH WORK WITH OTHER TRADES,
<br />UTILITIES, AND THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF
<br />WORK. VERIFY LOCATION OF DRAINAGE SYSTEMS AND STORM WATER
<br />RETENTION SYSTEMS.
<br />28. UNDERGROUND CONDUIT: PROVIDE PVC, SCHEDULE 40, 3/4” MINIMUM.
<br />PROVIDE GRC OR IMC CONDUIT ELBOWS, OR CONCRETE ENCASEMENT, FOR
<br />ALL BENDS OR CHANGES OF DIRECTION. BOND METALLIC ELBOWS ARE

<br />29. DIRECT-BURIED: CONDUITS FOR BRANCH CIRCUITS, FEEDERS, OR LOW
<br />VOLTAGE WIRING, THAT ARE INSTALLED OUTSIDE BUILDINGS OR STRUCTURES
<br />AND NOT INSTALLED UNDER PAVED DRIVEWAYS OR PARKING AREAS, SHALL
<br />BE A MINIMUM OF 18" BELOW GRADE. WHERE CONCRETE ENCASEMENT IS
<br />PROVIDED, BURIAL DEPTH MAY BE REDUCED AS INDICATED BY THE NATIONAL
<br />ELECTRICAL CODE. PROVIDE MARKER TAPE, OR A TRACER WIRE, A MINIMUM
<br />OF 6" ABOVE THE RACEWAY. RACEWAYS INSTALLED UNDER DRIVEWAYS,
<br />ALLEYS, PARKING AREAS OR AREAS SUBJECT TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SHALL

<br />INSTALLED PRIOR TO CONCRETE PLACEMENT. ROUTE CONDUITS BELOW SLAB,
<br />AS STRAIGHT AS POSSIBLE, TO MINIMIZE BENDS.
<br />31. ALL CONDUITS PENETRATING THE BUILDING ENVELOPE FROM BELOW GRADE
<br />SHALL FOLLOW WATERPROOFING REQUIREMENTS IN THE ARCHITECTURAL
<br />DRAWINGS.
<br />NEUTRALS
<br />32. AT CONTRACTORS OPTION, NEUTRALS MAY BE SHARED ON COMBINED HOME
<br />RUNS UNLESS THE CIRCUIT HAS A GFCI BREAKER, AN AFCI BREAKER, HAS AN
<br />ISOLATED GROUND, OR IS FROM A PANEL WITH TVSS PROTECTION. ANY
<br />NEUTRAL DOWNSTREAM FROM A DIMMER SHALL BE DEDICATED TO THE
<br />DIMMED LOAD. THE CONTINUITY OF THE NEUTRAL CANNOT BE DEPENDANT ON
<br />A DEVICE.
<br />33. NEUTRAL WIRES SHOWN FOR TWO AND THREE POLE MECHANICAL AND
<br />KITCHEN EQUIPMENT MAY BE OMITTED UPON VERIFICATION THAT THEY ARE
<br />NOT REQUIRED FOR THE PROPER OPERATION OF THE EQUIPMENT AND

<br />LIGHTING
<br />34. PROVIDE LIGHT FIXTURES WITH PROPER FITTING FLANGES, MOUNTING
<br />SUPPORTS, AND ACCESSORY ITEMS, LISTED BY AN APPROVED TESTING
<br />LABORATORY FOR THE CONDITIONS OF USE.
<br />35. GROUP SWITCHES IN A GANG BOX UNDER COMMON COVER PLATE, WHERE
<br />APPLICABLE.
<br />36. WHERE CONDUIT, CABLE, CABLE TRAY OR OTHER ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
<br />SUCH AS CUTOUT BOXES, PANELBOARDS AND LUMINARES PENETRATE RATED
<br />ASSEMBLIES, FIRE BARRIERS, FIRE WALLS, FIRE PARTITIONS, SMOKE

<br />ALL THROUGH AND MEMBRANE PENETRATIONS SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE
<br />ARCHITECT OF RECORD FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. ALL
<br />ACCESS PANELS SHALL BE APPROVED AND LISTED FOR THE ASSEMBLY IN
<br />WHICH THEY ARE BEING INSTALLED. COMPLY WITH ALL REQUIREMENTS OF

<br />43. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY ENGINEER OF ANY CONFLICT BETWEEN LIGHT
<br />FIXTURE LOCATIONS, MAIN RUNNERS, DUCTS, BUILDING STRUCTURE, ETC.

<br />51. ALL RECESSED FIXTURES SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH ALL REQUIRED
<br />STRUCTURAL SUPPORTS AS REQUIRED BY THE CURRENTLY ADOPTED ISSUE
<br />OF THE IBC, OR CBC WHERE ADOPTED, IN ADDITION TO ANY LOCAL CODES.
<br />FIXTURES SHALL NOT BE SUPPORTED BY GYPSUM BOARD.
<br />52. ALL COVE MOUNTED FIXTURES SHALL EXTEND THE FULL LENGTH OF THE
<br />COVE. CONTRACTOR TO FIELD MEASURE COVE LENGTH AND ORDER
<br />QUANTITY OF FIXTURES AS REQUIRED.
<br />53. ALL EMERGENCY BATTERY PACK FIXTURES (UNIT EQUIPMENT) SHALL BE
<br />PROVIDED WITH A CONSTANT HOT CONNECTION TO THE CHARGING LEAD. SEE
<br />GENERAL LIGHTING FIXTURE SCHEDULE NOTES FOR MORE INFORMATION.
<br />54. REFER TO ARCHITECTURAL REFLECTED CEILING PLANS FOR EXIT SIGN
<br />CHEVRONS AND NUMBER OF FACES PER EXIT SIGN. ANY DISCREPANCIES
<br />BETWEEN EXIT SIGNS SHOWN ON THE ELECTRICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL
<br />PLANS SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ARCHITECT PRIOR TO
<br />ORDERING EXIT SIGNS.
<br />55. WHEN EXPOSED CEILINGS OR OPEN GRID CONDITIONS OCCUR. THE
<br />CONTRACTOR WILL NEED TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
<br />55.1. ALL BRANCH CIRCUITS SHALL BE IN EMT.
<br />55.2. ALL BRANCH CIRCUITS SHALL BE ROUTED, NEATLY TRAINED, AND IN
<br />PARALLEL TO STRUCTURES OR DUCT WORK. THE TERM "TRAINED"
<br />MEANS ALL PARALLEL CONDUITS SHALL MAINTAIN THE SAME SPATIAL
<br />RELATIONSHIP WITH EACH OTHER FOR ENTIRE RUN TO INCLUDE RADIUS
<br />BENDS AND SWEEPS. VISUALLY OBJECTIONABLE BRANCH CIRCUITS WILL
<br />BE REROUTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE ARCHITECT AT NO ADDITIONAL
<br />COST.
<br />56. ALL LED REMOTE INDICATORS FOR DUCT DETECTORS AND FIRE/SMOKE
<br />DAMPERS REQUIRED BY THE LOCAL AHJ SHALL BE LOCATED IN CEILINGS AND
<br />COORDINATED WITH THE ARCHITECT PRIOR TO ANY ROUGH-IN.
<br />57. RECESSED FIXTURES LOCATED IN A RATED ASSEMBLY SHALL BE PROVIDED
<br />WITH A 5-SIDED RATED ENCLOSURE SO CONSTRUCTED AS TO PROVIDE THE
<br />REQUIRED CLEARANCES BETWEEN THE FIXTURE AND THE ENCLOSURE AND
<br />ALLOW FOR PROPER VENTILATION AS REQUIRED BY THE FIXTURE'S LISTING.
