CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: XX-XXXX <br />PROJECT TITLE <br /> <br />165 <br />The Contractor shall submit the following as part of the Sewer Bypass Plan: <br /> Plans showing the details of each installation site. For bypass pumping, the plans <br />shall include the arrangement of the temporary pumping equipment, location of <br />suction and discharge points, routing of bypass piping, method of protection of <br />equipment and piping from traffic, and whether the piping is buried, exposed or <br />pipe ramps. <br /> For gravity bypasses, the plans shall include locations of temporary flow-through <br />plugs, sewer plugs and bypass discharge piping. <br /> A description of how the bypass system will be controlled and operated. Describe <br />the method of control, the procedure and time requirements for switching to the <br />standby equipment and alarm notification. <br /> Capacities of pumps, prime movers and standby equipment. Design calculations <br />proving adequacy of the bypass system and selected equipment. <br /> Standby power source for bypass pumping. <br /> Staffing plan for maintaining equipment for 24-hour continuous, reliable <br />operation on weekdays and/or weekend days. <br /> Noise and Odor Control Plan. <br /> Plan showing the existing sewer line and the proposed points of flow interruption <br />and/or flow diversion. <br /> Construction time schedule showing anticipated times of flow interruption and/or <br />flow diversion. <br /> Spill Contingency Plan detailing precautions to be implemented to prevent <br />sewage spills including specific responses and control measures to follow during <br />an overflow resulting from breakage or blockage and maintenance and inspection <br />schedules to detect potential problems to mitigate the potential release resulting <br />from overflows, bypass pipe ruptures, and blockages. <br />The Contractor shall provide temporary pumps, conduits, and other equipment to bypass <br />the sewer flow. Engine-driven pumps shall be equipped with mufflers and/or shall be <br />enclosed to keep the noise level within the City’s Noise Ordinance. Pumps and bypass <br />lines shall be of adequate capacity and size to handle the flows. <br />Bypass duty and standby pumps shall be designed for raw sewage applications, resistant <br />to ragging, and capable of passing a 3-inch solid sphere. Pumps shall be self-priming <br />with suction lift sufficient to avoid sewer surcharge. The self-priming system shall allow <br />the pump to start dry and run dry without causing damage.
