CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: XX-XXXX <br />PROJECT TITLE <br /> <br />194 <br /> Types of testing to be performed <br />o Acceptable Bacteriological: <br /> Total Coliform = Negative <br /> Fecal Coliform = Negative <br /> Heterotrophic Plate Count Less than 150 CFU per 1 ml <br /> Chlorine Residual: Free or Total <br /> Company performing sampling and testing <br />Discharge from flushing of pipelines shall be routed to the sanitary sewer system. <br />Disinfection and Flushing shall be performed under the supervision of a D3 or T3 <br />Certified Operator and/or a Registered Civil Engineer practicing in the field of water <br />resources. <br />7.22 WATER MAIN TIE-INS, SHUTDOWN, AND ABANDONMENT <br />The following is the procedure for water main shut down to facilitate tie-ins or <br />abandonment of existing mains: <br />1. Contractor to pot hole and expose existing connection. <br />2. Engineer to verify existing conditions. Excavation shall be plated, not backfilled. <br />3. Prior to any shutdown of existing water system, the Contractor shall have all <br />necessary fittings and equipment on site to complete the water main tie-in or <br />abandonment. <br />4. Shut down shall be scheduled within the allowable working hours. <br />Contractor shall notify residents and businesses 48- hours in advance of shutdown. Water <br />shall not be shut off outside of times listed above except in an emergency. <br />All work necessary to shut down an existing public water main shall be coordinated by <br />the Water Resources Division. Under no circumstances shall the Contractor operate <br />valves, hydrants, and other appurtenant equipment on the existing public water system. It <br />shall be the Contractor’s responsibility to coordinate the necessary shutdown schedules <br />through the Construction Inspector assigned to the project. Scheduled shutdowns shall <br />require sufficient time to allow water maintenance personnel to review, approve, and <br />develop an appropriate Operation Program. Contractor shall coordinate shut down <br />activities with the City of Santa Ana Water Resources Division a minimum of four (5) <br />working days prior to any water main shutdown. The Contractor shall be responsible for <br />maintaining all schedules current and coordinating all deviations, which may occur from <br />time to time with the Construction Inspector. When necessary, such work shall be <br />performed after-hours or on weekends as directed by the Engineer. <br />The City will make a concerted effort to isolate the system as planned with the <br />Contractor. <br />505 E Central Ave <br />#B11/6/2024
