Within 4 hour re-coat window apply CIM at desired wet mil thickness to achieve a 120
dry mil application respective of desired warranty duration.
1. The re-coat window is 1 to 4 hours at 70°F (21°C), and is affected by the air and
substrate temperature. Consult manufacturer in determining re-coat window for
specific temperatures.
O. For Tile: Over 120 mil waterproofing system, apply one 15 to 20 mil tack coat and
broadcast clean, graded, kiln dried, 30 mesh sand aggregate to refusal at horizontal
surfaces and patted-in at vertical surfaces. Tack coat should be installed 2 to 4 hours
after base coat. Excess aggregate may be removed the following day, once cured.
P. Joint Lines:
1. Prepare for joint lines should rain or other conditions require work stoppage or
extended delay.
2. Install joint lines clean and straight. Install overlap 6-inches minimum to ensure
an impervious joint.
3. Severely abrade with wire brush or sandpaper and apply bonding agent to all
areas where the fluid-applied waterproofing has cured beyond its recoat window.
Q. Recoating:
1. Recoat the fluid-applied waterproofing system within the recoat window to obtain
maximum interlayer adhesion to build specific thickness.
2. Severely abrade with wire brush or surface grinder; apply bonding agent, and
recoat, if fluid-applied waterproofing has cured more than the recoat window.
Acceptable adhesion can only be achieved through aggressive abrading.
R. Curing:
1. Cure fluid-applied waterproofing in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Curing Time:
a. Allow minimum solvent release time of 24-hours at 60 F° (15 C°) for a 60-
wet mil coating thickness.
b. Allow 48 hours for a 90 mil thickness, and 72 hours for thicknesses greater
than 90 mils hours at 60 F° (15 C°).
3. Receive approval of cured coating by Engineer.
3.8 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Testing Agency: General Contractor shall engage a qualified independent testing
agency acceptable to the architect to perform tests and inspections.
B. Membrane Integrity Testing: Test all horizontal deck areas before placing overlying
construction:
1. ELD Testing: Testing agency surveys entire horizontal waterproofed area and
flashings to locate discontinuities in the system assembly using ELD in
accordance with ASTM D7877 and ASTM D8231.
a. After testing, repair areas of discontinuities, repeat tests, and make further
repairs until waterproofing and flashing installations are contiguous.
1) Cost of retesting is Contractor's responsibility.
