To comply wlth the lntent of thls <br />seclion, th6 opon-ended lirelighter tunnels will provide an avenua for natural ventilation from an <br />ad,iacent court that is equivalent to the roquked op€ning of 10 square feet connected directly to a street <br />or yard. Tho courts ln the prolect buildings are much larger than the minimum dimensions required by <br />Section 1206.3 (i.e. 9' x 16' minlmum dimensions for a S-story court). Courtyards 1 and 2 in Bullding B <br />have approximate dimensions of 62' x 90' where Courtyard 3 has approximate dlmenslons of 48190'. <br />These dimenslons provldo a court area that ls at l€ast 30 limos largor than the minimum size court <br />required by CBC Section 1206.3. These tunnels will be refened to as'2-Hour Rated <br />Firefighter Tunnels' ln lleu of'2-Hour lnterior Exit Passageway" as proviously sho\Ml on th€ drawings. <br />Per OCFA Guideline B-09, the interior doors opening into the tunnels will be go-minute rated solf- or <br />automatic-closing assemblies, but the ends of each s€gment of tunnel that connects the open court <br />yards should not b€ requlrod to b€ €ndosed sinc6 the opening is r€quired for firolighters to conduct th€ir <br />oporations, <br />ln addition to the dan ch6ck comment responses abo/e, th€ dssign team nrould like to address the disctErge of <br />interior 6xlt stairways at Level l: <br />Eoress Court Condition: The interior exit staaru/€y identilied as Stair #1 discharges at Level 1 to a p.ivate <br />sid€walk located on th€ \r,est side <br />of the project that leads to the public way on East First Str8et. The prop€rty line is locet€d approdmately 6.5- <br />feet frorn lhe face of the exterior wall on the ne$ side of the building. As such, this creatas an egress court <br />condition that is less than 1o-fe€t in width measured b€tu,Een th€ exlerior wall d the buildng and the p.operty <br />line.
