May 3, 2018
The Cambodian Family Community Center
A Multi -Ethnic Human Services Agency Promoting Social Health
1626 East Fourth Street, Santa Ana, CA 92701 (714) 571-1966 Fax (714) 571-1974
www.cambodianfamily.org
Santa Ana Arts and Culture Commission
City of Santa Ana
20 Civic Center Plaza
M-25, 6th Floor
Santa Ana, CA 9270
Dear Members of the Santa Ana Arts and Culture Commission,
On behalf of The Cambodian Family (TCF) Community Center, I am pleased to submit this letter in
support of the Orange County Children's Therapeutic Arts Center's (OCCTAC) application to the
Investing in the Artist Grant Program. OCCTAC's proposed project, "Santa Ana Multicultural Family
Festival" is a great opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity and educate the Santa Ana community
about the diverse cultural and ethnic traditions in Santa Ana.
TCF is a nonprofit, community-based organization located in Santa Ana, CA, that grew out of the
Minnie Street community and has served residents of Santa Ana and Orange County for the past 38
years. TCF was founded in 1980 by Cambodian refugees who had fled the horrors of civil war and
genocide. Our mission is to provide opportunities for refugee and immigrant families to develop the
knowledge, skills, and desires for creating health and well-being in their lives. TCF's current programs
focus on 3 key areas: Community Health and Mental Health, Youth Development, and Civic
Engagement/Immigration services.
TCF is excited to partner with OCCTA for the proposed project which will feature musical and dance
performances by youth and adults from diverse communities, including the Cambodian community in Santa Ana.
Also, the proposed project will serve to educate others and bring awareness of the cultural richness in
Santa Ana, as well as educate the Santa Ana community about the power of the Arts to bring diverse
communities together.
As a partner in the proposed project, TCF will assist OCCTAC with the event promotion and
community outreach in Santa Ana and Orange County. TCF expresses full support for OCCTAC's
proposal, as it will have the potential to reach a large, diverse segment of Santa Ana's population, and to
bring together diverse communities to celebrate the Santa Ana Multicultural Family Festival. Thank
you very much for your kind consideration of OCCTAC's proposed project.
Sincerely,
Vattana Peong, MPH
Executive Director
The Cambodian Family
