City of Santa Ana <br />The Tetra Tech team is currently <br />designing a Complete Street <br />project in Pismo Beach, that <br />encompasses 18 blocks of <br />Shell Beach Road, The project <br />elements Include a new Class I <br />Bikeway adjacent to the existing <br />Caltrans rlght-of-way (Highway <br />101). The design incorporates <br />wider sidewalks to improve <br />the pedestrian experience and <br />opportunities for outdoor cafes, <br />street furniture and improved <br />safety. The streets are redesigned <br />by reducing the lane width to <br />slow down vehicle traffic, adding <br />striped crosswalks at key crossing <br />locations for pedestrian safety, <br />new way -finding and streetscape <br />enhancements including: <br />pavement enhancements at <br />crosswalks and Intersections, full <br />ADA compliance, street furniture <br />and landscape improvements <br />that will provide a softening of the <br />views, create a shaded pedestrian <br />and bike lane corridor while <br />decreasing the heat island effect. <br />Concurrently, the project Includes <br />the addition of a new 12 -inch <br />water line, new 12 -inch reclaimed <br />water line, the undergrounding of <br />power and communication lines to <br />reduce the visual clutter and new <br />storm drain improvements. <br />16 DESIGN SERVICES RFP NO.: 1"42 <br />The project challenges mitigated <br />by Tetra Tech include reviewing <br />the approved concept plan and <br />developing an opportunities and <br />constraints map to determine <br />how to best achieve the concept <br />design against the field condltlons <br />and proposed improvements. <br />Additional challenges include <br />providing safe connections to <br />the existing school, providing <br />connections to future bikeway <br />improvements, designing around <br />existing utility corridors (including <br />an 18 -inch regional water line, and <br />two 8 -Inch oil lines), coordinating <br />Improvements with Caltrans while <br />determining the legal boundaries, <br />coordination the improvements <br />with Caltrans, San Luis Obispo <br />County, and presenting the design <br />options to the stakeholders In the <br />area. <br />The neighborhood includes a <br />mix of commercial business, <br />restaurants, cafes, and service <br />oriented businesses with the <br />residential community directly <br />adjacent, This neighborhood <br />has a unique character that is <br />different from other areas of the <br />city.
