INITIATIVE SUMMARY <br />WIOA Funding Support and advocate for funding for <br />the Workforce Innovation and <br />Apprenticeship <br />Training <br />Opportunity Act (WIOA) to enable the <br />city to continue to invest in workforce <br />education and training, and job search <br />assistance. <br />Support legislation that provides <br />apprenticeships, skills training and <br />other workforce development <br />opportunities. <br />Skills Gap Support legislation that promotes <br />industry training and employment <br />opportunities for job seekers which <br />will help them achieve a livable wage. <br />SCORECARD <br />(CDA) California has a 10 -year goal <br />to produce one million industry - <br />valued credentials. Santa Ana <br />invested over $400K in job training <br />which resulted in 80 people <br />receiving a middle skill credential <br />which allows for self-sufficiency. <br />—-— <br />(CDA) Collaborated Collaborated with Santa Ana <br />College to provide pre - <br />apprenticeship training. Four <br />cohorts of students were <br />trained. Santa Ana joined Santa Ana <br />College in submitting for a Strong <br />Workforce Grant (state) to continue <br />working on pre -apprenticeships. <br />Application pending. <br />(CDA) Two pieces of legislation <br />passed that support Santa Ana <br />workers. AB 1111 Removing Barriers <br />to Employment Act will address the <br />needs of persons who have multiple <br />barriers to employment, prepare <br />them for training, apprenticeships or <br />employment that will lead to self- <br />sufficiency and economic stability. <br />SB 840 — Prison to Employment <br />the Governor's 2018-19 budget <br />provides $36 million General Fund <br />over two years for local workforce <br />development boards to fund <br />employment training opportunities <br />for at least 1,000 ex -offenders and <br />to integrate local employment <br />training with programs offered by <br />parole and probation departments. <br />Santa Ana submitted a proposal with <br />award announcements expected <br />soon. <br />65A-33ity of Santa Ana Legislative Scorecard 2018 15 <br />
