Community Health, Livability and Sustainability <br />The City of Santa Ana has a direct effect on the community's overall quality of life. A vibrant <br />community is full of energy and life, characterized by investment in its people, culture and <br />physical environment <br />Control of City <br />Assets <br />Digital Divide <br />SUMMARY <br />Support legislation that maintains <br />local control over municipal <br />assets in the deployment of next <br />generation technological <br />infrastructure. <br />Support and advocate for <br />legislation that helps cities close <br />the gap in the digital divide. <br />Expand Consumer Support and advocate for <br />Options for ! legislation that assists with the <br />SCORECARD <br />(CM) Maintained control and prevented <br />bill at state level that would have <br />allowed companies from installing cells <br />on city light posts and infrastructure. The <br />city was able to maintain control over <br />assets by writing letters of opposition for <br />legislative bills that would have limited <br />city control over municipal assets. <br />(IT) Senate Bill 649 regarding wireless <br />telecommunications facilities was vetoed <br />by Governor Brown. However, the new <br />FCC directive weakens local control. <br />(PWA) The Public Works Agency is <br />conducting a pilot project to leverage <br />streetlights and provide 5G services. This <br />pilot will be taken to council in the near <br />future. The Petro Pilot program is a <br />wireless service for the downtown area. <br />The agency will evaluate how Wi-Fi will <br />work. If the program is a success, then <br />there will be an expansion to more <br />locations in the city. <br />(IT) The city hired Magellan Advisors to <br />assist the city with updating our <br />ordinances to better support Small Cell <br />sites and 5G. Magellan Advisors is also <br />working with the city to create a fiber <br />master plan to ensure that the city is <br />positioning itself for the future <br />(PWA) The city is limited due to the FCC <br />caps on what private companies can be <br />65A-34city of Santa Ana Legislative Scorecard 2018 16 <br />
