the Department Head, and the approval of the City Manager. <br />The procedure for such reduction shall follow the same procedure as outlined for merit <br />advancements in Section 4.8 above. <br />Air employee reduced to Step "D" may be considered for re -advancement to Step "&" under <br />the same provisions as contained in Section 4.8C above. <br />4.10 Promofion <br />When an employee is promoted to a position in a higher classification from a position. in a <br />lower classification in the same occupational career ladder, he/she shall be reassigned to <br />Step "AAA" in the appropriate salary rate range for the higher classification; provided, <br />however, that if the base salary step currently being paid such employee is already equal <br />to or higher than said Step "AAA," he/she will be placed in the lowest step in the <br />appropriate salary rate range as will grant that employee a minimum increase of one (1) <br />salary step, approximately five percent (5.0%) over his/her current base salary step, <br />inclusive of lead pay, and exclusive of any other assignment or special pay additive or <br />additives such as bilingual pay, shift differential, special skill pay or the like, except when <br />placement at "E" step will not be sufficient to provide a one (1) salary step, approximately <br />five percent (5.0%) increase. <br />4.11 Demotion <br />When an employee is demoted to a position in a lower classification, his/her salary rate <br />shall be fixed in the appropriate salary rate range for the lower classification in accordance <br />with the following provisions: <br />A. The salary rate shall be reduced by at least one (1) salary step, which is <br />approximately five percent (5.0%). <br />B. The new salary rate must. be within the appropriate salary rate range. <br />C. The new salary rate shall not be higher than the salary step to which the employee <br />would have been entitled had his/her service time in the higher classification been <br />spent in the lower classification. <br />D. If the salary rate recommended by the Department Head is lower than the maximum <br />step permissible under Subsection C above, such recommendation shall be <br />considered a reduction in pay in addition to the demotion and shall be handled in <br />accordance with the provisions for salary reductions in Section 4.9 above. <br />4.1.2 Reallocation of Salary Rate Ranges <br />Any employee who is employed in a classification which is reallocated to a different salary <br />rate range froth that previously assigned shall be retained in the same salary step in the new <br />2019-2022 MOU City of Santa Ana & SEW Full -Time Employees Unit Pa'�'�-ge 20 r <br />
