LS 3.17.20
RESOLUTION NO. 2020-xx
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA FOR A ONE YEAR EXTENSION OF
CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT NO. 2017-29 AND
VARIANCE NO. 2017-07 FOR THE HAMPTON INN HOTEL
DEVELOPMENT TO BE LOCATED AT 2129 NORTH MAIN
STREET
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines
and declares as follows:
A. On February 20, 2018, the City Council affirmed the Planning Commission's
recommendation to approve Conditional Use Permit No. 2017-29 and
Variance No. 2017-07 to allow the development of a six -story, 135-room
hotel development at 2129 North Main Street. On February 20, 2020, the
applicant requested an extension of the entitlements.
B. Due to difficulties in securing funding for hospitality projects such as the
proposed hotel, the applicant has been unable to move forward with the
development and is requesting an extension for the conditional use permit
and variance. It is the Planning Division's policy to recommend no more
than one-year extensions, mainly in an effort to encourage the
construction of previously approved projects.
C. Upon the securing of funding for the project, the applicant intends to
obtain all necessary building permits for the project. The plans for the
project have completed the plan check phase of development and are
ready for permit issuance. The applicant expects to obtain permits and
start construction later this year.
D. Pursuant to City of Santa Ana Municipal Code Section 41-647, where
construction does not commence, these types of entitlements expire after
two (2) years unless the applicant applies for, and the City Council
approves, an extension.
E. The extension request came before the City Council on March 17, 2020,
F. In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and
the CEQA Guidelines, the extension for this project is exempt pursuant to
Section 15061(b)(3). This determination has been made as it has been
Resolution No. 2020-xx
55B-3 Page 1 of 3
