<br />Project Description:
<br />BOA Architecture was commissioned to provide investigative and design
<br />services to bring 3 DMV facilities into compliance with current ADA and CBC
<br />accessibility standards and to modernize its electrical, computer data, HVAC,
<br />and Customer service systems to better serve the public:
<br />Hawthorne DMV, LA County, $900,000 construction cost
<br />El Cajon DMV, San Diego County, $1,100,000 construction cost
<br />Oxnard DMV, Ventura County, $1,400,000 construction cost
<br />The projects addressed many accessibility issues such as exterior paths -of -
<br />travel, parking, ramps/stairs, handrails, hi -low drinking fountains, entrances,
<br />door hardware, automatic access doors, counters, restrooms, employee
<br />lounges, interior paths -of -travel for both employees and the public, and
<br />interior/exterior signage. New signage included directional wayfinding, tactile
<br />room ID signs, and means of egress signage including tactile exit signs. The
<br />projects also addressed many deferred maintenance issues such as indoor
<br />and outdoor lighting replacement to LED's, parking lot repaving, new
<br />landscaping, replace wood siding with plaster, HVAC duct cleaning, upgrade
<br />electrical service, and new interior and exterior signage. Other issues
<br />addressed were the modernization of its electrical, computer data, HVAC, and
<br />Customer Service systems to better serve the public. Construction cost of
<br />completed projects ranged from $900,000 to $1,400,000 per DMV. Full -service
<br />ADA surveys (to determine all access compliance deficiencies) and Schematic
<br />Design (derived design options to best resolve barriers to the disabled), were
<br />completed for each DMV and DSA and State Fire Marshall plan review and
<br />approval were secured for each DMV facility. To ensure proper technology
<br />function, BOA worked closely with AV Technology and Information Technology
<br />to coordinate elect. Power needs and location of TV's, cable trays, audio
<br />speakers, data/power for workstations, and DMV cueing system.
