By
utilizing these sophisticated production tools, Santa Ana's youth can create high quality projects
for fun, to develop their creative craft, and even to make money by filming quinceaneras,
weddings, local events or commercials for local businesses.
MILPA also empowers local youth, organizations and residents to bridge the digital divide,
increase their in-house production capabilities and document critical issues facing their
communities. MILPA addresses the lack of in-house media production capabilities for
community organizations and provides an opportunity to create "digital response teams" to
produce critical documentation and mass media messaging at an organizational,
communitywide or statewide level.
With very real threats to arts funding, social justice programs, public education, voting,
immigrant communities, civil rights, civic equity and inclusion, this project enables the speedy
mobilization, production and dissemination of powerful digital content to protect and promote
California's arts sector to other sectors.
Details of Collaborations with Local Organizations
MILPA will partner with local organizations, allowing program participants to obtain valuable
production experience providing documentation services and fulfilling a critical need. This will
provide important training to participants during and after the instruction. Organizations such
as the Superstorm Center for the Arts, Arts OC and the Mexican Consulate in Santa Ana have
already expressed interest in utilizing MILPA graduates for this purpose. Since we are currently
under social distancing and stay-at-home orders due to the COVID pandemic, we will likely not
be able to do this in -person. We will, however, make these connections and help participants
create virtual relationships that they can develop over time, and explore more extensively after
health restrictions lift.
14
