Course Methods:
A large group discussion about fear of speaking is conducted followed by suggestions and
modeling of effective delivery characteristics. These techniques are practiced by participants
in small groups.
A "clinic" (large group discussion) about how we set the learning climate during the first 30
minutes is followed by a brief lecture on the four elements of climate setting that exhibit
classroom preparations. Participants then design their own session starter and share that in a
small group.
Eight techniques to increase participation are demonstrated by participant involvement in
exercises. This is followed by individual planning to improve personal lecturing style to
incorporate participation techniques.
Questioning techniques and types of questions are expanded upon as a method to increase
participation and improve understanding. Participants then write appropriate open and closed
questions for a class discussion of their own. These are critiqued by peers.
To apply adult learning steps during a demonstration with skill practice, a brief simulation is
conducted that illustrates the five steps. Differences in low and high risk demonstrations are
discussed in the large group.
Problem learner situations, causes and strategies to deal with them are reviewed in the large
group. Participants complete case studies applying four sets of strategies.
Unit 4: Optional Participant Practice Facilitation Sessions
The third day will be devoted to "practice facilitation" sessions presented by each participant.
The participant will conduct a 10-15 minute session. A critique sheet that focuses on process,
content and delivery will be used for peer and instructor feedback. Because of the participant
practice sessions, class size is limited to ten participants or the group can be split into smaller
practice groups, each with a Training Clinic instructor and necessary equipment.
Unit 5: Resources
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
By the and of the workshop, the participant will be able to:
1. Use adult learning techniques to improve retention and reduce learner resistance.
2. Use feedback on your natural training style to improve your training approach.
3. Get feedback on ten key elements of your instructional style
4. Identify different ways learners prefer to learn and how to adjust your training style to be
successful.
5. Use 24 pointers to overcome fear of speaking before a group.
re
©2022 The Training Clinic Confidential Proposal Page 6
