Senior Paralegal (1 FTE): Click Here for City Job Description <br />When assigned to the Rent Stabilization Division: <br />Manages and coordinates all hearings for appeals to rent amounts and petitions. <br />Communicates with the tenants and landlords involved, collects supporting <br />documentation, coordinates with the Rental Housing Board, and coordinates the issuance <br />of letters of determination. Manages and coordinates all mediation services and hearing <br />officer services for the Hearings and Mediation Unit. <br />Manages the collection, organization and distribution of all documentation for actions <br />undertaken by the Deputy City Attorney, Assistant City Attorney, Contract Hearing Officer, <br />and Contract Mediator. <br />Hearings and Mediation Unit <br />The Hearing and Mediation Unit's primary goal is to process petitions, appeals, hearings and <br />voluntary mediations. The structure of this unit includes two contracted, full-time equivalents <br />(FTEs). There is also one (1) shared Senior Paralegal position with the Legal Unit in the Division. <br />Hearings and <br />Mediation Unit <br />Contract Hearing Officer <br />(1 FTE) <br />Contract Mediator ('I FIFE) <br />`----------------- <br />i Senior Paralegal (1 FTE) <br />L------------------ <br />These positions maintain the following roles: <br />Contract Hearing Officer: Conducts administrative hearings dealing with tenant or <br />landlord petitions for relief under the Ordinance. Coordinates hearing schedules with City <br />and Division Staff and facilitates pre -hearing routine matters. Reviews Appeals, Petitions <br />and all relevant documents and identifies potential concerns. Performs legal research, <br />interprets complex statutes, policies, and procedural guidelines. Conducts hearings in a <br />fair, impartial, courteous and professional manner. Prepares written determinations of <br />decisions, which sets forth the legal and evidentiary basis for the decision.
