CITY OF ANAHEIM ORANGE COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS
INTERSECTION WIDENING
OF ANAHEIM BOULEVARD/
BALL ROAD
Anaheim, CA
Psomas led a multi -disciplinary design team for
widening of the Anaheim Boulevard and Ball Road
intersection providing civil engineering, survey,
traffic, landscape and irrigation, and environmental
services. The project also included installation
of bio-infiltration basins to mitigate water quality
impacts associated with the pavement widening.
In coordination with the City's water quality
lead, Psomas was able to finalize water quality
solutions under budget that are consistent with the
City's guidelines. The intersection is designated
as a primary arterial on Orange County's Master
Plan of Arterial Highways (MPAH) and the City's
Circulation Element.
The project corrected operational deficiencies at
this intersection by widening Anaheim Boulevard
along the east curb, and north and south legs
of the intersection, to provide for additional
through and left turn lanes, bike lanes, and
raised landscaped medians. Major challenges
of the project included stakeholder coordination,
conformance to off -site improvements, right of way
acquisition, relocation of major utilities within the
corridor, and long-term water quality solutions.
REFERENCE: Tiberius Rosu
Sr. Civil Engineer 1714.765.4113
trosu@anaheim.net
ORANGE COUNTY PARKING
LOTS - STRANDS BEACH
PARKING LOT AND CARBON
CANYON REGIONAL PARK
Brea and Dana Point, CA
Psomas provided engineering and surveying
services to assess pavement condition and
apply appropriate treatment type to the facility in
order to achieve the longest design life relative
to cost for Carbon Canyon Park and Strands
Beach Parking Lots. A Pavement Evaluation and
Repair Recommendations Report was prepared
to provide options on pavement rehabilitation for
several types of pavement failure.
The scope of the project also included redesign
of existing access ramps and sidewalks
throughout the park to bring them up to current
ADA standards. Many of the ramps straddled
two jurisdictions so coordination between two
agencies was required. In addition, mature tree
roots had uplifted portions of the parking lot
and sidewalk so assessment by an arborist and
specific pavement removal limits were imperative.
After design was completed, Psomas prepared a
carefully sequenced construction phasing plan.
Psomas' services included aerial surveying,
design surveying, pavement repair plans, grading
and drainage plans, signing and striping plans,
erosion control plans, construction phasing plans,
specifications, and cost estimate.
REFERENCE: Anthony Ty, PE
Civil Engineering Assistant 1714.667.8800
anthony.ty@ocpw.ocgov.com
YEAR COMPLETED: 2018 YEAR COMPLETED: 2021
