Proqram Information <br />DA-PF16 - Pit and Fissure Sealants <br />®A-PF16 — Pit and Fissure Sealants <br />Course Description: <br />Pit and Fissure theory and procedures are taught and practiced on manikins and then on clinical patients <br />under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Dental Assistant using a caries detection device. <br />Completion of Pit and Fissure Sealant requirements will permit the assistant to perform the procedure <br />after obtaining the Registered Dental Assistant license. The student will complete 5 Pit and Fissure <br />typodont teeth during laboratory, and 4 clinical patients that have a minimum of 4 virgin, non -restored, <br />natural teeth, sufficiently erupted so that a dry field can be maintained. In addition, each patient will have <br />a minimum of 1 tooth in all four 4 quadrants. 1 of the 4 patients completed must have at least one 1 upper <br />and one 1 lower molar. Upon completion of the course, the student will receive a Certificate of <br />Completion. This course is not vocational in nature and does not lead to initial employment. <br />Prerequisite: <br />Each student must possess the necessary requirements for application for RDA licensure or currently <br />possess an RDA license. Each student must have already completed a Board -approved course in coronal <br />polishing. <br />Course Length: <br />16 clock hours <br />(4 lecture, 4 laboratory and 8 clinical) <br />Student Learnina Objectives: <br />Upon completion of this module, students will be able to: <br />• Examine dental sealants, including the clinical indications and contraindications for dental <br />sealants and the rationales for filled and unfilled sealant materials. <br />56 <br />
