<br />that time off in proportions to their service at full pay in such capacity during the <br />year. <br />8.3 Employees must actually work at least one (1) day preceding the day a holiday listed in <br />Section 8.1, supra, actually occurs in order to receive credit for such holidays during the <br />month in which it occurs. <br />An employee separating from the service of the City must actually work at least one (1) <br />day following the day a holiday listed in Section 8.1, supra, actually occurs in order to <br />receive compensation for the holiday. <br />A newly appointed employee must complete six (6) months of continuous full-time service <br />in order to receive credit for the one (1) Floating Holiday listed in Section 8.1. <br />8.4 Holiday time off may be taken in increments of eight (8) hours by employees who work <br />eight (8) hour days. Employees assigned to the 4/10 work schedule must use their holiday <br />in ten (10) hour increments. Employees assigned to a 9/80 work schedule must use their <br />holidays in nine (9) hour increments. <br />If a holiday falls on an employee’s alternating regularly scheduled day off, the employee <br />must then take their holiday off before or after the regular holiday as their holiday off with <br />supervisor and/or Executive Director approval. Such holiday time is referred to as an <br />“impact holiday.” If the employee cannot take their holiday off before or after the regular <br />scheduled holiday off, the employee will bank eight (8), nine (9), or ten (10) hours of <br />holiday leave to be used at a later date with the supervisor’s approval. <br />8.5 <br />8.6 <br />Holiday benefits may not be carried over from one (1) calendar year to the next, with the <br />exception of floating holidays earned as set forth in Section 8.7(C)(5). <br />Mandatory Holiday Closure. <br />A. <br />B. <br />Effective upon adoption of this MOU, City Hall and all other City departments <br />(with the exception of the Police Department, Santa Ana Zoo, and select employees <br />in Fleet Services Division) shall be closed for a mandatory winter holiday closure <br />each year during the term of this MOU. <br />Dates of Closure <br />City Hall will be closed on the days between December 24 (except for years when <br />December 24 falls on a Wednesday in which case City Hall will be closed starting <br />on December 25) and January 1 each year. An employee regularly assigned to work <br />on one or more days during this time period shall use accrued paid leave (as set <br />SANTA ANA MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (SAMA) MOU: 2022-2025 22
