. . . . . . . . . .
FAIR OAKS PARK, SUNNYVALE
Project Description: Verde Design was selected by the City
of Sunnyvale for the renovation of Fair Oaks Park, a 15-acre
community park located in Northern Sunnyvale, originally built
in 1969. The design includes the replacement of the existing
athletic field turf with synthetic turf for its baseball, soccer,
and multi -use fields. This is the City's first park with synthetic
turf, which will reduce annual water usage and significantly
increase play time during high rainfall seasons. In addition
to the fields, the Verde Design team worked with the Magical
Bridge Foundation and City staff for an all-inclusive playground
to be incorporated within the park design. The project also
included hardcourt improvements, expanded picnic areas, and
circulation and infrastructure improvements.
Program:
• Conversion of natural grass field with synthetic turf fields
• Renovation of picnic areas and park amenities
• Magical Bridge Playground - universally accessible play
areas for children of a wide range of abilities and ages with
custom playhouse
• Reconstruction of hardcourts
• Maintenance building renovation
• New restrooms/concessions building
• Upgrade to existing sports field and pedestrian site lighting
• Dog park with DG surfacing
Services: Community facilitation, site design, construction
documents, and construction administrative services
Client: City of Sunnyvale
Jim Stark, Superintendent of Parks Department of PW
6221 Commercial Street
Sunnyvale, CA 94085
408.730.7596 1 jstark@sunnyvale.ca.gov
Consultant PM: Mark Baginski
Size: 15 acres
Construction Cost: $16.75 million
Schedule: Construction completed June 2022
PROJECT AWARD
American Public Works Association (APWA)
m
viror
2OF22 Environmental Project of the Year Award: >$275M
RUM "N'
P r 74
IN, qP
40
A. rotIX, IM IA7L W-VWx RJF,7148 4t
