Building Community <br />Efforts <br />B. Pursue grants and partnership <br />opportunities from local, state, federal, <br />and nonprofit partners to continue and <br />expand strategic investments that build <br />community. <br />Annually <br />Through the City’s agreement with fiscal sponsor Charitable Ventures of Orange <br />County, the Santa Ana Grants for Blocks program offers a unique and equitable <br />opportunity for neighborhoods who are not designated as a nonprofit entity by <br />the IRS to seek funding for local neighborhood investments. Through the City’s <br />arts and culture neighborhood funding, Santa Anita and Pacific Park and other <br />neighborhoods have had access to organize strategic educational and cultural <br />events to activate their neighborhoods and leverage future community identity <br />and infrastructure projects. City Council special event discretionary funding has <br />also been invested in neighborhoods for special activities, outreach, and <br />programs. <br />7. Building Community <br />Efforts <br />C. Continue to make strategic <br />investments in parks, recreation, access <br />to healthy food, safe routes to school, <br />and other capital improvements, such as <br />achieving three acres of parkland per <br />1,000 residents set out in Land Use and <br />Open Space elements, and Parks Master <br />Plan to improve resident health. <br />Ongoing <br />The City continued to make strategic investments in parks. The Park Services <br />Division continues efforts to provide capital improvement projects and <br />acquisition opportunities. During the course of 2023, the City acquired eight <br />additional parcels to add to the size of a new park at 10th and Flower streets. <br />Also, the City acquired parcels along Bristol Street to be utilized in the future. In <br />partnership with Water Department, an addtional property at 1st and <br />Mountainview was acquired. <br />8. Neihborhood Safety <br />A. Apply the principles of Crime <br />Prevention Through Environmental <br />Design (CPTED) to all development <br />project applications to enhance safety <br />and security within all residential <br />developments. <br />Ongoing Through the development review process, staff continued to apply the CPTED <br />principals. <br />B-90
