Pumps. <br /> <br /> (a) Pumps installed above grade shall be located not less than 6 feet <br /> from lines of adjoining property that may be built upon and not less than l0 <br /> feet from a property line that abuts upon a public right of way or thoroughfare. <br /> Such p~mps shall be located not less than l0 feet from buildings which are <br /> not of incombustible or at least one-hour fire resistive construction nor less <br /> than 5 feet from any building opening less than 4 feet above grade. <br /> <br /> (b) Pumps installed above grade shall be .mounted on a concrete founda- <br /> tion and shall be protected against damage by vehicles. <br /> <br /> (c) Submersible or sub-surface pumps shall be inStalled in accordance <br />with approved standards. <br /> <br /> (d) All pumps shall be designed or equipped so that no part of the <br /> <br /> system may be subjected to an internal pressure exceeding 50 psig. <br /> SECTION 3121.11. Pits. <br /> <br /> (a) Pits intended to contain sub-surface pumps or fittings from sub- <br />mersible pumps shall be no larger than necessary to contain the intended <br />equipment and to permit the free movement of hand tools operated from above <br />grade. <br /> <br /> (b) Pits and covers shall be designed and constructed to withstand the <br />external forces to which they may be subjected. When located above any under- <br />ground tank, at least one foot of earth or sand cover shall be maintained <br />over the top of the tank. <br /> <br /> (c) Pits shall be protected against ignition of vapors by the following <br /> <br />method: Filling the pit with an incombustible inert material. <br /> SECTION 3121.12. Piping. Valves and Fittings. <br /> <br /> (a) Piping, vslves and fittings shall be designed for the working pres- <br />sures and structural stresses to which they may be subjected. They shall be <br />galvanized or otherwise protected against external corrosion with an approved <br />material. Ail threaded joints or connections shall be made up tightly by the <br />use of a suitable pipe joint lubricating compound. Only fittings tested at <br />125~ shall be used. <br /> <br /> (b) A chec~ or manual valve shall be provided in the discharge line from <br />the pu~p with a union between the valve and the pump.
