SECTION 33: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby <br />amended by repealing and re-enacting Section 8-797 thereof to read <br />as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 8-797. Keceptacle Outlets Required. <br /> Section 210-22 of the National Electrical Code, <br />Edition, is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />1968 <br /> <br /> 210-22. Receptacle Outlets Required. <br />Receptacle Outlets shall be installed as follows: <br />(a) General. Where portable cords are used, except <br />where the attachment of cords by other means is specifi- <br />cally permitted. <br /> (b) Dwelling Type Occupancies. In every kitchen, <br />breakfast room, dining room, living room, parlor, library, <br />den, sun room, recreation room and bedroom, receptacle <br />outlets shall be installed so that no point along a counter <br />top work space or a wall space is more than six feet, <br />measured horizontally, from an outlet in that space. Such <br />space shall mean any space two feet wide or greater and <br />shall include island counter top work space, sliding <br />panels in exterior walls, partial height walls, and <br />build in room dividers. The receptacle outlets shall, <br />insofar as practicable, be spaced equal distances apart. <br />Receptacle outlets in the floor shall not be counted as part <br />of the required number of receptacle outlets unless located <br />close to the wall. At least one outlet shall be installed <br />for the laundry. As limited elsewhere in this Code, a <br />maximum of 12 outlets may be installed on any one circuit, <br />and overcurrent protection shall be 20 amperes. <br /> Outlets in other sections of the dwelling for special <br />appliances, such as laundry equipment, shall be placed with- <br />in six (6) feet of the intended location of the appliance. <br /> (c) Guest rooms in hotels, motels, and similar occupan- <br />cies shall have receptacles installed in accordance with <br />Section 210-22(b). <br /> (d) Minimum Wire Size. For the supply of current to <br />general appliances and convenience receptacle circuits, no <br />conductor smaller than No. 12 A.W.G. shall be installed. <br />No convenience receptacle or appliance receptacle shall <br />be installed or operated on a general lighting branch <br />circuit at any time in any occupancy. <br /> EXCEPTION: As permitted by Section 210-26(b). <br /> (e) At least one receptacle shall be installed in rooms <br />containing one or more wash basins or lavatories. <br /> <br /> SECTION 34: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby <br />amended by amending Section 8-810 thereof to ~ad as follows: <br /> <br /> Sec. 8-810. Lighting Outlets. <br /> Section 210-26 of the National Electrical Code, 1968 <br /> Edition, is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> 210-26. Li~htinq Outlets. <br /> (a) Each single family dwelling and each occupancy of a <br /> multi-family dwelling shall have not less than one general <br /> lighting branch circuit with a maximum of 12 lighting out- <br /> lets per circuit installed, minimum wire size shall be <br /> No. 14 A.W.G. <br /> (b) In all occupancies, every room shall have at least <br /> one switched general lighting outlet. Living rooms, bed- <br /> rooms, family rooms and dens may be excepted, provided at <br /> least one switched wall receptacle is installed of the <br /> "split plug" variety and supplied by a lighting branch <br /> circuit and a convenience outlet circuit. <br /> NOTE: The intent of the above is to provide two circuits <br /> per room. <br /> <br />-17- <br /> <br /> <br />
