Encourage the relocation of inappropri- <br />ate activities and/or those activities that <br />will not be consistent with the goals and <br />objectives of this Spedfic Plan. <br /> <br />Encourage the formation of a business <br />improvement association or similar enti- <br />ty comprised of local merchants to pro- <br />mote the area, help educate other busi- <br />nesses and instill high professional and <br />maintenance standards. <br /> <br />2.6 Goal Six: To create a secure atmosphere within which <br />business and residential communities can thrive. <br /> <br />Objectives: 1. <br /> <br />Encourage land uses and design features <br />that are not prone to attracting criminal <br />activity. <br /> <br />2. Continue to reduce the levels of criminal <br /> activity through active and visible polic- <br /> ing efforts. <br /> <br />3. Attract more desirable and viable uses to <br /> the area that serve to enhance its cus- <br /> tomer base. <br /> <br />Continue to fund and support communi- <br />ty improvement strategies such as resi- <br />dential rehabilitation loan programs, <br />community policing and code enforce- <br />ment efforts, public improvements to <br />alleviate crime and social problems, <br />improve the quality of life in the neigh- <br />borhood and encourage neighborhood <br />pride. <br /> <br />Encourage safe pedestrian circulation <br />through adequate lighting standards, <br />appropriate setbacks, improved visibili- <br />ty, well-designed landscaping and con- <br />venient links to neighborhood shopping <br />centers. <br /> <br />6. Encourage high maintenance standards <br /> for all areas of public and private land to <br /> upgrade the overall appearance of the <br /> area and increase public pride. <br /> <br />Create an inter-agency task force to coor- <br />dinate policing, land use regulation, <br />housing and community service activities. <br /> <br /> <br />
