In Re Ordinance No. 959 Water Softeners, etc. 487 On motion of Trustee Warner, seconded by Penn and car- ried, the communication from the 0range County Civic League protesting against the donating of city funds for the summer playgrounds, was accepted and filed. ,, Mr. Maxwell Burke, Drs. Margarete Baker, M. W. Hollings- worth, Mrs. Roy Hort~n and others appeared before the Council urging the donation of $750.00 towards S,,mmer Playgrounds. The motion of Trastee Hasenjaeger to deny the request of the Parents Teachers Association and other~ for a donation of $780.00 towards $,mmer Playseunds etid not ~ receive a second. On motion of Trustee Warner, seconded by Penn and carried, the matter relative to a donation for Summer Playgrounds was taken . Petitions wer~ ~a-esented signed by 2321 residents approv- ing the placing of city buses and taxis under strict regulation.and under the same protection granted other public utilities. On motion of Trustee HasenJaeger, seconded by McBride and carried, the petitions were re- ferred to the City Attorney. On motion of Trustee HasenJ~eger, seconded by McBride and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was accepted and the petition of property owners to have the name of E~calyptus Street between Seventeenth and Nineteenth changed to Victoria Drive, was denied. On motion of Trustee Warner, seconded by Penn and Harry E. Kessler was appointed a special police officer without pay to act as' watchman at the Red Cross Flou~ Distributing Warehouse. ,, On motion of Trustee HasenJaeger, seconded by Warner and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to secure an appraisal on the lighting equipment salvaged from the Bowl and report back at the next meeting. An Ordinance was finally read amending Section 154 of Ordinance No. 821 of the City of Santa Ana pertaining to the installation of water softeners and other similar fixtures. The ordinance was considered, designated Ordinance No. 9§9 and passed by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J.L. McBride, E.G. Warner, W. H. Penn, A.C. HasenJaeger, Paul B. Witmer.
