Gas Company covering franchise tax for the year ending December 31st, 19~§, was received and Clerk instructed to deposit same. . A petition was read signed by residents of Valencia Street between Seventeenth and Twentieth Streets requesting the installation of street lights on said street. On mo~lon of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Penn and carried, the petition'for street lights on Valencia Street, was referred to the Street Commissioner and City Engineer with power to act. . On motion of Trustee Penn, seconded by Layton and carried, the application of MacFarlane Electric for a permit to hang an electric sign for Sebastian's Brownbilt Shoe Store at 108 E. Fourth Street, was granted if and when it is approved ~~ by the Electrical Inspector and hung under his supervision. On motion of Trustee Penn, seconded by Layton and carried, the communication of Geo. L. Bates, Civil Engineer and Map Tract No~ 999 were'referred to a committee for investigation and report back. Trustees Penn, Layton and City Engineer were appointed as the committee. . On motion of Trustee LaYton, seconded by Bruns and carried, the quotations as submitted to the City Auditor for traffic signals at First and Main Streets and at Seventeenth and Main Streets, were opened as follows: Gilbert-Weston-Stearns MacFarlane Electric Acme Traffic Signal Inc. Bid $2335.00 21~7.00 Alternate Addition 286.33 1136.00 (17th & Main Sts) 977.00 {.lst& Main ets.) 1045.00 On motion of Trustee Layton, seconded by Penn and car~ed, the quotations submitted on traffic signals were referred to the City Auditor and Engineer for checking and report b~ck. On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Penn and carried, the Chair was authorized to appoint a committee, consisting of Trustee Bruns and Attorney Blodget to meet with the Board of Supervisors and the Sheriff of Orange County relative to the establishment of a rock pile in the City of Santa Aha for traffic violators and vagrants to labor upon. The City Attorney reported that he had filed a written opin- ion with each member of the City Council relative to the legality of making an order requiring traffic violators and vagrants to labor upon a rock pile in the City of Santa Aha. # On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Layton and carried, the communication of the Metropolitan Water District submit- ting a report on the progress made in the work for the month
