Jemison to conduct a bowling alley at A08 W. Fourth Street, was referred to the Police Commis- sioner and~Chief for investigation. # On motion of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Penn and carried, the application of the Santa Ana Pyramid #Al, A.E.0. Sciots for a free permit to hold a carnival by the Kraft Shows in Santa Aha from March lath to March 23rd, 1956, as a benefit for their lodge, was granted. . On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Penn and carried, the warrant in amount of $2276.8~ of the Southern California Edison Company Ltd., covering franchise tax for year ending December 31, 1935, was referred to the Auditor for checking. The statement and warrant in amount of $2278.8A of the Bou- them California Edison Company, having been checked and on motion of Trustee Penn, seconded by Smith approved by the City Auditor,/same was received and ~lerk instructed to deposit the warrant with the City Treasurer. A petition signed by eight property owners was read, request- lng the improvement of West Orange Road with decomposed gran- ite, placing of street light at the end of the street and placing the "dead end street" sign at a visible location. On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Bruns and carried, the petition of property owners for the improvement of West Orange Road, was referred to Trustee Layton and City Engineer for investigation. . A petition signed by the Official Board of the First Metho- dist Episcopal Church of Santa Aha, was presented, requesting the Council to examine into the business conducted in the City of placing bets and wagers on horse races. On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Bruns and carried, the petition of ~he Official Board of the First Methodist Episcopal C~ch was referred to a committee of the Council, of which the Mayor is to be a member, to confer with the District Attorney! and City Attorney as to the solution and disposition of the Turf Club Betting Agencies. Trustee Bruns, Smith and Mayor Rowland were appointed as the committee. # On motion of Trustee Penn, seconded by Bruns and carried, the application of MacFarlane Electric to hang an electric sign for the Main Market at 320 B. Main Street, was granted if and when the sign is approved by the Electrical Inspector and ease to be hung under his supervision. ~d carried,
