Santa Ana City Hall. May 18th, 1936. 7:30 P.M. The City Council met in regular session. Meeting called to order by Mayor Rowland. ?resent: Trustees Plummer W. Bruns, Joseph P. W. H. Penn, Ernest H. Layton, Fred C. Absent: Trustees None. Each Trustee having received a copy of the Minutes, further reading of the Minutes of Meeting of May 4th, 1936, was dispensed with on motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Bruns and carried. Smith, Rowland. In Re Poppy Day Amer.Legion Auxiliary. In Re Bulletin #!! League of Municipalities. In Re License of Earle M. Hatheway. In Re Communication Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce. In Re Application Walter Edward Cu!!en. In Re Electric S~_gns. Street, was Clerk as to # . .On motion of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Penn and carried, the application of the American Legion Auxiliary for permission to solicit funds through the sale of poppies on the streets, May 23, 1936, was granted. On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Bruns and carried, bulletin #11 of the League of California Municipalities with reference to franchise problems was referred to the Attorney for checking and observation to be referred back to the Council for disposal. On motion of Trustee Penn, Seconded by Layton and carried, the communication of Harvey & Harvey with reference to city license and permit on his Used Car Market at 304 E. First referred to the City Attorney to confer with the the facts in the case and for disposition. On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Bruns and carried, the communication from the Secretary of the Nev~ort Harbor Chamber of Commerce relative to the action taken by its Directors urging the opening of Flower Street between Santa Aha and the Newport Boulevard, was received and filed and the ~lerk was instructed to ackmowledge receipt of communica- tion and inform the Secretary on the action of the Council and the Planning Commission in the matter. . On motion of Trustee Penn, seconded by Bruns and carried, the application of WalteF Edward Cullen for a permit to drive a taxicab for the Courtesy Cab Company, was granted on recom- mendation of the Taxicab On motion of Trustee Penn, Commission. seconded by Bruns and carried, the application of Electrical Contractors to hang electric signs for the Majestic Ice Cream Company at 501 N. Main Stree and for R.A. Tiernan Typewriter Company at ll0 W. Fourth Street, were granted upon the approval of the Electric Inspec tot and to be hung under his supervision.
