No. 3333 <br /> <br />Declaring Weeds <br /> <br />a Nuisance <br /> <br />In Re <br /> <br />Elimination of full-time <br /> <br />Civilian Defense Coordinator <br /> <br />abandoning loading zone on the west side of No.Broadway <br />between §th and 6th Sts., located as follows: The <br />North 14.6 ft. of the South 88 ft., was introduced, <br />read, considered, designated Resolution No. 3332 and <br />passed by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes, Trustees <br /> <br />Dale G. Deckert, W. Eugene Dixon, <br />Otto R. Haan, W.J.Cheney, <br />Asa Hoffman. <br /> <br />Noes, Trustees None <br />Absent,Trustees None <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Dixon, <br /> <br />seconded by Cheney and <br /> <br />carried, the following Resolution entitled: <br /> <br />"A Resolution of the City Council of the City of <br />Santa Ana detex~min~ng and declaring that weeds <br />which bear seeds of a wingy or downy nature and <br />attain such a large growth as to become a fire <br />menace when dry, and which are noxious and <br />dangerous, are growing upon certain streets, <br />sidewalks, and private property in said City <br />of Santa Ana, and are a public nuisance: <br />Directing the Street Superintendent to post <br />notices to destroy said weeds as required by <br />law: Fixing the time for hearing objections <br />and protests, and directing the abatement <br />thereof in accordance with an act of the <br />legislature of the State of California entitled, <br />"An Act authorizing municipalities to declare <br />noxious or dangerous weeds growing upon the <br />streets or sidewalks or upon private property <br />within municipalities to be a public nuisance, <br />creating a lien upon the property fronting <br />upon such streets or sidewalks, or upon which <br />such nuisance exists for the cost of abating <br />the same, approved May 26, 1918", and amendments <br />thereto" <br /> <br />was introduced, read, considered, designated Resolution <br />No. 3333 and passed by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes, Trustees <br /> <br />Dale G. Deckert, W. Eugene Dixon, <br />Otto R. Haan, W.J.Cheney, <br />Asa Hoffman. <br /> <br />Noes, Trustees None <br /> <br />Absent, Trustees None <br /> <br />The Mayor recormuended to the Council that office of <br /> <br />full-time Coordinator of Civilian Defense be done away <br /> <br />with and that a qualified pa~t-time Coordinator be <br /> <br />appointed; that Martha Starkey, Secretary, be retained <br /> <br />in the office as a full-time director, keeping all files <br /> <br />and records up to date. That the auxilliary fire and <br /> <br />police be placed under the Police and Fire Departments <br /> <br />and that the Control Room be kept in order and ready <br /> <br />for immediate operation. The Mayor stated that this <br /> <br />in no way effects the efficiency of Civilian Defense <br /> <br />but would be a saving to the tax-payers of approximately <br /> <br />$2600.00 a year. The Mayor thanked John Sylvester for <br /> <br />his splendid work as Coordinator and that this move in <br /> <br />no way reflects on his ehility. He further recommended <br /> <br />that Sidney Lowry be appointed as part-time Coordinator <br /> <br />of Civilian Defense, effective as of April 15th, 1944. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Trustee Dixon, seconded by Cheney <br /> <br />that the recommendation of the Mayor be accepted and <br /> <br />adopted. <br /> <br /> <br />
