In Re Abandon alley running easterly from Pacific On motion of Trustee Deckert, seconded by Cheney and carried, the request of the Chief of Police to send Captain Chas. W. Wolford to meeting of the California State Division of the International Association for Identification in Oakland, May 28th, was granted and Captain Wolford instructed to file an expense account upon his return. On motion of Trustee Chancy, seconded by Haan and carried, and on recomendation of Erma Keeler, City Clerk, the appointment of Voris K. Robison, to act as City License Inspector, in the Clerk's Office, was approved. Communication was read from H.M.Nelghbour, St. Supt. requesting permission to have weeds burned on vacant lots and on motion of Trustee Deckert, seconded by Chancy and carried, the Chief of the Fire Dept. was authorized to issue special fire permits to responsible persons to burn weeds in the afternoon during the weed abatement program. A communication was read from City Attorney Otto A. Jacobs, together with communication from Richard Carpenter, Legal Counsel, League of California Cities, relative to request of the Indoor Sports Club, Inc. Long Beach Chapter, regarding pensions for handicapped and crippled people in California, and on motion of Trustee Haan, seconded by Chancy and carried, the Clerk was instructed to advise the Club that request was denied and that the prgper place to make such request is to the County Board of Supervisors. On motion of Trustee Cheney, seconded by Deckert and carried, the official certificate of the population of the City of Santa Ana, by race and sex, as returned at the Special Census, taken as of March 6, 1944, totaling 38,01§, was received and filed. On motion of Trustee Deckert, seconded by Haan and carried, communication from Chief of the Fire Dept. stating that Laure B. LaFU~'gey resigned effective May l, 194~ and that M.E.Lamb was reinstated as Hoseman, to replace Mr. LaFurgey, was received and filed. A petition w~s presented signed by property owners in the vicinity of Pacific, West 6th and West 7th Sts., requesting that a blind alley running easterly from pacific Ave. to private property be abandoned, and on
